Big Teath . . by Arlene Holden Even though Halloween now past, are you interested is in the scariest things to come from the minds of second graders? Mrs. Marshalls class came up with these nightmares. Stephen is afraid of the devil because he is mein. Todd, Brian, Kelly and Kenny don't like vampiers because they bite with thier Big Teath. Steven wrote that a number of things frighten him: Drakla, Skelatatan, wechases on their broom laughing, laughing. King Kong scares Terry. Tim doesnt like Frankenstein because he tore down a factory. white Jerry doesnt like while John is fying ghosts frightened by ghosts and pumpkins dressed (as) witches. Mindi is afraid of a green monster who wears a green monster suit. An owl bebceause the noise is loud, scares Cherone. Erik and Ricky are frightened by the double feature nightmare bacause it is scori. Kaylene and Shannon both saw a hand coming out of the ground, and were frightened. Cody was scared at the movies Because a man slid in to jaws mouth. Thats Scarey Animals come next on the list with Lorri being afraid of a humna ant. Shaune was afraid of a dinoasaur crushing houses and people. Matthew says the sabre tooth tiger is the meanest thing in the whole world because they look at me and try to get me. Lory was afraid of the sppook ally because it was so dark. Matthew is afraid of the ciggarette man. He steels the (that) went says her brother because he is a monster on Halloween. He scared me once. A special PTA meeting was held last week in the multip-purpos- e room at the school. Dr. J. C. Haws superintendent of the schools. Jay Stewart viceprincipal at BEHS, Robert Morgan principal of the Junior high school, and Winston Benson a school board member were guest speakers to present the reasons for putting the school bond on the ballot. They mentioned that this was the 32nd meeting held in conwith the PTA junction throughout the county. The $2.5 million dollars would finance two swimming pools for the high schools and a much needed auditorium for the junior high. Each person spoke on the need for these things and brought up different view points of each concerned. All questions from the audience were answered. By the time this is published the results of the election will be known to all. So may we say congratulations to the winners and we'll all get behind you to help you in any way possible. Just Returned Ira and Iva Archibald have just returned from Concord, Calif., where they visited with their daughter and her family. Best wishes to Salley Goodell and Earl McClurg who are both in the hospital. Sally is in St. Benedicts in Ogden and Earl is in the Veterans in Salt Lake City. The third and fourth grades went on a field trip to Ogden last week. A baby shower was held for tiny Scotty Monson and his mother last week at the Monson home. It was given by Sandra Bauman, Karen Reed and Janie Youngkeit. In the First Ward fast meeting Sunday three children were confirmed. Dine Sue Peck, the daughter of Sandy and Keith Peck, was confirmed by William Hall. Niel Chambers, the son of Verdon and Cloelia Chambers, was confirmed by his father. Skipper Page, the son of Gene and Geramine Page, was confirmed by his father,. ; Were Confirmed In the Third Ward fast meeting Michael and Michelle Ashton were confirmed by Seth Thorpe. Little Brett Norris Hubbard was given his name and blessed by his father Norris Hubbard. His mother Lu and his sisters Laurie Ann, Julie, Jill and were Kimberly interested onlookers. After the meeting the Hubbards gathered at their home for a family gathering with cake and ice cream for the children. Lowell and Lenora Lemons daughter Richard and son-in-la- w E. and JoAnn Day from Layton brought their daughter Treasa Ann to be and named by her grandfather. Richard and Mary Lemon from Ogden and Joanie Lemon from Layton were also present for the event. The family all stopped at the Lemon home on their way home for a family gathering. Gibbs attended the annual bazaar sponsored by the Mental Retardation association of Utah and the parents of the students of the American Fork Training school of which her son Richard Gibbs is a student. The bazaar was held at the Armory in Salt Lake City Saturday. The Box Elder County display won first award. She also visited with her brother-in-laand sister, Mr. and Mrs. A. R. Castleton of that city. Among those who attended funeral services for LaVern M. Smith, 64, at Pleasant View, Saturday were Esther John, Elma J. Bell, Mr. and Mrs. E. Wynn John, Sarah C. Howell, Mr. and Mrs. E. T. Hoskins, Mr. and Mrs. Wendell C. Hall, Mr. and Mrs. Virgil C. Harris, Mrs. David P. Gibbs and Devere Harris. Elder Devere Harris was a speaker at the service. Several other Portage people visited the Benson Friday mortuary evening and Saturday. Mr. Smith was the husband of Rozella John Smith. Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Harris accompanied Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Gleen of Malad and Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Madsen of Wendell, Idaho to Ogden Saturday evening where they met Mr. and Mrs. Marion Rees at the China Nite cafe where they enjoyed dinner. Following dinner they visited with Lonny Gleed at his home in Ogden. . Visit Sunday Mr. and Mrs. Tom John of Las attended Nev., Vegas, Sacrament meeting here and also visited with relatives and friends here Sunday. Tom is the son of DeMour John, formerly of Portage. Mr. and Mrs. Owen Nielsen and family hosted a dinner party Sunday afternoon in honor of Owens mother, Mrs. Reed Nielsen on her birthday anniversary. Hall visited with Mrs. Clara Hoskins at the Sunshine Terrace Nursing home in Logan Friday. Miss JoAnn Rindlisbacher was a surprised young lady Monday evening when a group of friends, invited by her sister, Shari, came to help her celebrate her birthday. If you serve sandwiches, why not plan to have the kind you can freeze ahead? Thaw them as needed.
