Scott, Amy Jo and- Robby Askie have returned to Page, Ariz. after spending the summer visiting Mr. and Mrs. B. R. Askie and family. Attending a surprise party at the home of Mrs. Pearl Ward Hoopes in Benson Saturday were Mr. and Mrs. Jim Hess and children Tony, Elone, San and Todd. Others attening were Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Wells and son Larry and daughter Marlena of Malad, Idaho, Richard Hoopes and son Troy of Ogden, Mr. and Mrs. Eldon Pierce and daughters Carolyn and Becky and son Jeffrey of Wellsville. The occasion was Mrs. Pearl Hoopes 68th birthday anniversary and the party was an unexpected surprise to her. She was presented with nice gifts. Mrs. Hoopes is Mrs. Jim Hess mother. son-in-la- Askie. Cyndi and Brian Kelly have returned home after spending the past two weeks visiting and relatives friends in Westlake, Calif. son-in-la- Family Party '. Attending were Mr. and Mrs. Kirk Wood and son Ryan of Roosevelt, Mr. and Mrs. Byron Wood of Tremonton, Mrs. Ivan Bingham and daughters of Elwood, Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Wilcox and family of Fielding. ; Mrs. Donetta Petersen has been spending a few days visiting her sisters Mrs. Carol Robbins in Salt Lake City and Mrs." Stella Beck in Midvale. The three sisters visited their brother-in-laand sister Mr. and Mrs. Paul Stokes in Cedar City. Dinner guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Smith and family Thursday evening were Mrs. Bart Flint of Logan, Mr. and Mrs. Randy Able who have been vacationing with relatives in this area. Friday Randy and Jana Able left by plane for their home in North Stonington, is Conn, which Randys headquarters in the US Navy. Mrs. Mildred Smith accompanied by her houseguests Mr. and Mrs. Dick Kuisel and son Byran and daughter Marcie spent Thursday visiting in St. Charles, Idaho. They also visited Minitonka Cave. Mrs. Rachel Burton and daughter Maurine spent a few days last week visiting Mr. and Mrs. Norman Petersen and family in Bountiful and Mr. and Mrs. Ron Crane in Herriman. Maurine attended graduation exercises at BYU where her former missionary companion Julie Postman received her degree in Nursing. She also visited her girl friend Ilene Thompson in Salt Lake City. The occasion was Verns birthday anniversary. Miss Cynthia Petersen was sustained as president of the Laurels in the Young Womens' Organization Sunday evening with Jolene Rudd and Mitzie Welling as counselors and Kristy Scott as secretary. David was sustained Winkler president of the Priesthood group with Dan Scott and Ricky Jones as counselors and Roger Hansen as secretary. Retiring officers are Teresa Scott, Lynette Godfrey and Christine Bywater for the Laurels and Mike Garn and Kim Moss for the Priesthood Dinner Party Held Mr. and Mrs. E. C. Mason accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Mason and children of Salt Lake City enjoyed a dinner party at the Four Winds in Logan Canyon Sunday. Saturday visitors at the Sutherland home were Mr. and Mrs. Walter Sutherland and daughter Jill and Mrs. Sandra Wheeler and two children of Ogden. takes part in speed race Rick Vesco of Brigham City is out at the Bonneville Salt Flats (Wendover) this week attending the National Speed w'eek trials. He is driving his fathers model engine streamlined car and hopes to go over 175 mph through the flying mile. Also at the meet is Ricks brother Don of La Mesa, Calif., who is attempting to break the worlds motorcycle land speed record of 256 mph in his streamlined, Yamaha powered motorcycle. The Vescos are long time commuters to the Salt Flats, with Ricks father, John, attending the very first meet held in 1947 and every one since then.
