Show County fair Jr. fat stock auction bids participants Brigham City, Utah Thursday, August 22, 1974 BOX ELDER JOURNAL, Contributors needed for scholarship fund The Box Elder County Fair boasts the largest and finest Junior fat stock auction in the state of Utah. This fact was made known this week by county fair officials who urged all interested persons in the county to attend and participate in the auction at this years fair. Some of the finest beef, lambs and hogs raised anywhere in the county will go on sale Saturday morning at 9:30 in the auction arena at the county fair grounds. Box Elder County businesses and many individuals help the young ranchers of the county by bidding for and buying their animals at the auction. Fair officials hoped a large turnout of buyers would attend the auction this year to keep it the largest and best in the state and to help make sure all animals are bought. We dont want any of these youngsters disappointed because they cant sell their stock. The young people of the county can Utterly hundreds of hours raising and grooming spend their stock for the county fair, the official said, and the auction is their payoff. With Peach Days upon us many Box Elderites think of the fun and festivities. Police charge youth in series of crimes ' , A Brigham City youth is back custody at the Utah State Industrial, school after being linked by local police with a string of crimes. was The teenager apprehended by city police Thursday afternoon and was charged with three counts of auto theft, one count of burglary, one of larceny, two charges of attempted auto theft plus reckless driving and evading a police officer. Elder county girls vie for a title but a scholarship to the college or university of their choice. The scholarship is drawn from a fund held by the Jaycees who this year are attempting to expand that fund to cover a scholarship for not only the queen but the first two attendants as well. Private citizens as well as merchants are invited to make contributions regardless of size to the fund. Donations can be mailed to the Jaycees, Post Office Box 553, Brigham City. university dance Eight students from the Brigham City area were recently involved in a six week Dance West program held during summer quarter at Utah State university. They were: Tamra Adams, Gail Anderson, Debbie Dunn, Pam Gray, Melinda Michaels, Kathleen Payne, Marie Russell and Shelly Swain. Dance West, in its first year at USU, brought to the campus such dancers as Burch Mann, creator of the Americana Dance Theatre, and San Christopher, actress and dancer. Guest instructors for the sessions were: Ismet Mouhedin, ballet director of the Ballet Debbie Dunn, duaughter of Les and Marion Dunn of 717 West Fourth South is a student and member of Orchesis at USU. A former member of the dance club and Rockettes at Box Elder high school, she taught dance for two years for the Brigham City Recreation association. Miss Gray, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Early L. Gray of 348 North Fifth East is a student at USU. She was a member of the Box Elder dance club and is with Orchesis and the Calico dance performing company at USU. Melinda Michaels, daughter of Cdr. and Mrs. R. J. Michaels of 178 North Eighth East, was active in modern dance in high school. She was publicity chairman of the Dance Club at Box Elder High school. At USU she was the student director of Orchesis last year. Miss Payne was the secretary of the Dance club at Box Elder high school and while at USU she has served as the secretary of Orchesis. Miss Swain, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Norman K. Swain of 1066 Orchard, is a student at the University of Utah where she has taken courses in character and ballet. She danced with the Americana Dance theatre in The West: Americas Odyssey a part of the Festival of the American West held last month at USU. arrest. Attempted theft of two motorcycles from the garage of Robert Richards, 549 South Second East, on Aug. 13. Theft of two sets of keys to two Kawaski motorcycles at the residence of Ginger Busenbark, 79 North First East, on Aug. 13. Theft of a license plate from a motorcycle in the garage of James Cagle, 281 North Ninth East, forms advisory board The formation of a Continental Telephone company of Utah advisory board has been announced by Grant T. Callister, vice president and general manager. The first meeting was held at the companys state offices in Tremonton on August 8. The Utah Advisory Board has been established to obtain the support and comments of key people in selected communities served by Continental Telephone of Utah. It has been instituted to provide a sounding board for the plans and service of Continental of Utah and afford management an opportunity to better understand the problems and challenges facing the communities and customers served by the company.
