Show V' f,"M 8 BOX ELDER JOURNAL, Brigham Cify, Ufah Thursday, December 13, 1973 Recreation head At Dugway Results from the Box Elder County Fairgrounds Horse Power All that horse power under the hood of a car cant begin to equal the thrill of that two horse power when your on the other end of the lines. It is truly a tremendous experience and popping out of those gates could be the "biggest thrill Ive ever had, baring none!" Last Saturdays races were thrilling. You should have seen that track! Some places the mud was almost knee deep, or so it appeared. Waves of mud hitting the bottom of the chariot, costing the driver precious time as well as a terrific strain on the horses. There was one pretty good middle of the track. spot-t- he Now, everyone tried for this position, thats part of the game. You do "jockey for an advantage if its possible. However, there are rules and regulations (darn). You can not interfere with the other team, in any way. Thats why we have track judges out there. You cant blame a guy for trying, plus the fact it is harder to control a big strong team in a heavy track. We had a disqualification-n- ot intentional-an- d many more close ones. In fact, the Darwin Bywater and Verl and Jess Udys teams even touched just out of the gates. Some teams had other broken neck problems-li- ke straps, only three tuggs, broken hames and add mud blinded drivers-an- d we had ourselves a day. Luckily, no casualties. Best Care The track is given the best of care during the week. To get it into the very best condition possible and just to name two guys I know who worked hard last week, were Dwight Nicholas and Ken Moates. We are very glad to have Ken Moates and his wife with us. They have moved out of our area, but came back, with their beautiful horses, to run this cutter season. Sherriff Warren Hyde said this cutter thing is 10 years old. Now that has taken a lot of work. Astounds you when you consider the money, time and effort involved. You know, I think its here to stay. I understand the horse business is Utahs fourth largest industry. It isnt hard to believe when you know what some of these gorgeous animals cost and you look over the parking area where there are trucks, vans, horse trailers, chariots, harnesses along with hardworking wives and kids. Business Support We appreciate the support of local businesses, who furnish us with prizes to be given for different achievements on the track. R & R Hardware donated two bottles of horse cough syrup - a timely thought. and Jeppesen Wayne Gibbs & Sylvester, in the A & B colt division, were the recipients. Hey, I suggest you guys taste that before giving it to your horses, it just might be good. Grant Wright won two halters, also from R & R Hardware. Our Loyal supporter, Four Seasons Supply, donated two whips that ended up in the hands of Dee Anderson and Ralph & Mike Yearsley, hope they had been dipped in a magic potion and they both get a win next week. Some are crying in their coffee, others smiiing, but they know, either win or lose, they only have a few days before the whole thing can easily reverse itself and they continue to plan and scheme for the next race. Dont you ever believe they don't keep statistics on every horse, they know what their competition is. racing-wi- Next Saturday This is how the races will be run next Saturday.
