The troupe operates in conWSC the junction with Department of Theatre Arts and is permanently based in the schools fine arts center. I There are usually eight performers, male and female, and each may be called upon to play several roles, even within an individual story. In some cases these roles may include inanimate objects, such as trees or rolling stones, and, of course, a great many animals are involved. They work without elaborate scenery or great numbers of props with the primary emphasis upon the imagination, not only of the audience but of the actors as well. Verl Anderson Sheepman of Year BE sheepman receives state award Box Elder Graduate Among the present company is David Page, a recent graduate of Box Elder High school where he was active in theatre arts. Others are Dennis Judson, Kent Hansen, Ginny Knight, Diana Kozlowski, Nancy Larson, Bill Marsee, and Jeff Newey. . The stage manager is Jodi Turner. Thus far the company has appeared at such events as the Utah Renaissance Faire and the Salt Lake Art festival, Davis County fair, and Bertha Eccles Art festival in Ogden. Yule program on tap Sunday Verl Anderson, prominent Columbia, purebred sheep breeder of Fielding was named Utahs Purebred Sheepman of the Year at the Utah Woolgrowers convention held in Salt Lake City recently. Anderson started in the sheep business in 1967 with 21 head of registered purebred ewes purchased from R. J. Shown in Monte Vista, Colo. -- one of the top breeders of Columbia sheep in the United States. In 1971 Anderson showed his sheep for the first time to acquaint breeders and rangemen with his flock in the hope of attracting more buyers. At the Utah State fair he had champion ram, reserve ram and first and second place in all other classes. At the Cow Palace in San Francisco he received more recognition. At the National Columbia show and sales in Spanish Fork he had the reserve champion ewe which sold for $225., a ram lamb for $310., and a pen of three ewes for $175. Prices were down at this time due to lack of interest in the future of the sheep industry. Coyotes presented a challenging problem to range owners, sheepmen reported. Two members of Utah's congressional delegation are continuing efforts to get a fair shake for Intermountain school. Representative Gunn McKay this past week circulated a letter to other senators and congressmen, urging that the inschool be developed as a multi-tribstitution. And Sen. Wallace F. Bennett has urged Morris Thompson, new commissioner of Indian affairs, to include a policy decision on the school as a first order of business. McKay said his letter went to all members of Congress with Indian populations in their districts or legislative responsibility for education. The Bureau of Indian Affairs has managed to convince many members of Congress that Brigham City has nothing to offer, said Republican McKay. An alarming number of congressmen already assume that Intermountain school is not compatible with any Indian education possibilities. Finest Facility McKay said he felt the Brigham City installation was the finest facility of its type in the nation, with 20 dormitories, an indoor swimming pool, two gymnasiums, and a modern .language laboratory. The Navajos have mad it clear that they no longer wish to educate their children at the school, he explained. But their decision does not rule out use the school by other tribes and I am encouraging other members of Congress to support a multi tribal school and work to see that all Indian children recieve the best education available. of Makes Observations to Thompson, only recently confirmed by the Senate, Senator Bennett made the following observations: It has been nearly 10 months since we learned of the decision to stop sending Navajo students to Intermountain, and since that time I have tried in vain to get the Bureau and the Interior department to make a decision with regard to the future use of the school. All we have had so far is a mailbag full of excuses-t- he leading one being the fact that there was no Indian commissioner so no decisions could be made. Now that your appointment and confirmation have eliminated that problem, I am writing to ask that you immediately untertake a full review of the situation at Intermountain to determine: (1) whether the original decision to phase it out as a Navajo boarding school was justified, and (2) if in fact it will be phased out, whether another use can be made of the facility in the Indian education program. The Brigham City school has been operated as a boarding school for Navajo children for the past 23 years.
