Show THE SAN JUAN RECORD Wednesday, April 30, 2003 - Page 10 Musicians excel at region, state On April 12, the Monticello High School Band and Choir traveled to Mountain View High School in Orem for the State Solo and Ensemble com- petition. The following earned superior ratings by judges: A womens choir of Sellica Freestone, Rachel Fellmeth, Raeven Church, Christina Hart, LoyRetta Crane, Liz Weatherford, Cynthia Harris, Rachel Randall, Nicole Reed, Lita Callihan, Shiela Wallace, and Kayla Ramsay. Clarinet duet by Cynthia Harris and Rachel Randall. Clarinet solo by Cynthia Harris. Soprano solo by Kayla Ramsay. Tuba solo by Jason Blank-enage- l. Baritone horn solo by Lelo Garcia. Tuba solo by Niels Palmer. A vibraphone solo by Kayla Ramsay earned superior nus scores. The following earned excellent plus ratings: Womens trio of Rachel mi- Fellmeth, Cynthia Harris, and Kayla Ramsay. Flute solo by Katie Andrews. Horn solo by Scott Frost. Soprano solo by Liz Weatherford. Tenor solo by Niels Palmer. Alto sax solo by Mathew Torres. Aflute solo by Amanda Frost earned excellent marks. On April 23, the Monticello High School Band and Choir both received two Superiors and qualified for State competition in May. School officials congratulate all the kids and their accompanists who worked so hard and did such a great job! They also offer thanks to Janeese Weatherford, Denise Frost, and Lorelei Andrews for making the trip all the way to Provo to accompany the solo- ists at State Solo and En- semble, and for Ruth Tibbs and Theresa Kershaw for chaperoning on the busses to region at Kanab. New interim pastor at Blanding Baptist Church Lindsey Nimmons, Jr. is the new interim pastor of the First Baptist Church of Blanding, Utah. He preached his first sermon on Easter Sunday, April 20, 2003. He is from Trinity, Texas. The church will continue to have Sunday School for all ages at 10 a.m. Sundays, and worship services at 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. Sundays, until a new pastor comes to the church. Lindsey Nimmons, Jr. will continue the churchs Bible studies and various ministries at Bluff, the Toda Baptist Church on Highway 191, 15 miles north of the Arizona border, the communities of Slick Rock, Little Water, White Rock and Haschita. It will cost the owner fifty cents per head to redeem them. 50 years ago A cyclone, so far as known, was unheard of in San Juan County, but an unusual sight appeared when John Perkins reached the D.B. Perkins farm east of Monticello. A half mile strip 75 to 100 feet wide was demolished. Large trees were uprooted, vegetation swept clean and the fence gone. 40 years ago Officers Associations rifle and pistol Peace The Four Corners range, located southeast of Monticello, became more of a reality with installation of target poles, firing line poles and leveling the area. 30 years ago Plans are progressing for the Homecoming in Bluff, with a special welcome being extended to former residents of Bluff to return to the historic town. 20 years ago The San Juan County Commissioners took time to explain the county commission operation to groups of students representing the student councils of San Juan, Whitehorse and Monticello high schools. 1, South 300 West Blanding, Utah 84511.
