Show Wall of honor for veterans, soldiers County Fair Originally, it was Angie Wilsons idea, but she quickly gained support from everyone she talked to. Now there is a Wall of Honor featuring local veterans and those currently serving in the armed services, located in the foyer of Clarks Market in Blanding. A mother of two sons in the National Guard, Angie says she just thought it would be a good idea to commend all those who have served in the military. Kim Kensley, quartermaster for the local Veterans of For- eign Wars, made the board. He, too, thought it was a good idea. Jim served in Vietnam, a time when there were few honoring the U.S. troops. When he returned home, he was spit upon and called a baby killer. Like many of his fellow soldiers, Jim has tried to put the suffering of that time behind him. He also served during Desert Storm, when flags and yellow ribbons were hung to salute the armed forces. He knows how important it is for the military to have the support of their Jims wife, Amy, helped with the Wall of Honor. She put up a picture of her father, knowing that he would never do it himself. He doesnt consider himself a real veteran because he didnt fight - his was a peacekeeping mission, Amy says. He served in Germany during the time they put up the Berlin Wall. But when he joined the military, he did what everyone else does - essentially he put his life on the line. He did not know where he would be sent or what he would be asked to do. Every person who commits to become a soldier commits to do what their commanding officer tells them to do. We need to recognize the courage it takes to do such a thing. Families of veterans and sol- diers may take pictures and put them up on the board. List the name, rank and area of service, or what war the veteran served in. If your soldier is currently serving, for security reasons you should only list the name and rank. sponsors logo design contest The San Juan County Fair Board is looking for citizens who are interested in creating a fair logo to go with the 2003 County Fair Theme: Proud and Free in 2003 and including the tag line, San Juan County Fair Salutes Our Troops.
