Calvin Balch, manager of First Security Bank in Bland-ing- , has been elected assistant vice president of the bank, according to Calvin W. Jeppson, senior vice president and manager of First Securitys Southern division. A native of Richfield, Balch joined First Security in 1978 as a mortgage loan officer of the banks Monroe office. He later served as assistant manager of the Richfield office and since 1985 has been manager at Blanding. Balch, a graduate of South Sevier High School, attended LDS Business College. James Montellas quick thinking on November 30 helped save a young mans life in Blanding. Montella rushed the Blanding youth and medications to an emergency medical technicians home for immediate aid. The Blanding ambulance team, Dr. James Redd and San Juan Hospital staff were called upon for additional medical care. Montella, a Marine stationed at San Diego, is home on two weeks leave. Veterans assistance A field service officer from the American Legion, Department Service Office in Salt Lake City, will be in Blanding at the Job Service on Tuesday, December 9 from 1 until 2 p.m. The officer will assist veterans in understanding and applying for rightful VA benefits, preparing and documenting applications for compensation, pension, hospitalization, education and other benefits. This is a free service and veterans need not be a member of the American Legion to qualify for assistance.
