In June of 1986, a wildland fire destroyed important mule deer winter range in Bigwater Canyon. Among the species lost was bitterbrush, a preferred forage plant of deer. Because of the archaelogical resources present, no drill seeding or discing could be done for reseeding. Unfortunately, bitterbrush seed does not sprout well if not covered by soil. It was decided to apply the seed by hand and rake it into the soil. To do this we needed some seed and some willing helpers. The seed came from the BLM Moab District office and helpers were recruited from the local cub scout ranks in Monticello. The reseeding project will Jared Kilgrow, Jennifer Kilgrow, Stephanie Kilgrow, and Delon Palmer.
