At this time of year I think of a song I learned as a child, Over the River and Through the Woods. Perhaps there are other old timers who still know that song about Thanksgiving at the home of grandma and grandpa. Family gatherings planned for Thanksgiving include the Dave and Freeda Guymon clan, except for daughter Lorraine and son Dennis and their Ellen Brown is families. preparing dinner for most of her family. The Kent Redd family will be together except for son Lynn and family. Several members of the Dee and Melva Black family will be here to eat turkey with their mom and dad. Harvey and Jessie Bradford expect their family for the holiday. Shirley and Dick Ensle will entertain their family and Ellen Johnson and family had Thanksgiving dinner a week early to include Leon, who has been visiting. The George Paulsens will motor to Salt Lake City to enjoy Thanksgiving with other family members. Doug and Caroline Christiansen will spend Thanksgiving in Cali- - fomia with their children. Ulene and Joe Petty and son will spend Thanksgiving in Mesa with Ulenes mom, Veva Black, and Ulenes sister Sharee. Veva and Sharee are spending the winter in Mesa. Lynn and Reta Adams of Monticello stopped to say hello to Lynns mother on their way to El Paso to spend Thanksgiving with their daughter Amber and her family. It is always nice to hear from former San Juan residents and we were delighted to receive a letter from Jacqueline Redd Wilson. She and her husband Dean and family now live in Dallas. We also heard from Merene Redd Humphrey of Utah. Merene Orangeville, Jacqueline are sisters. Kemner were the other participants from San Juan High. Blanding streets have taken on a new look as Christmas decorations have gone in place. There is more to look at this year as new decorations have been added to complement the second in social studies, Monticello placed first by Donald Guymon Glen Guymon placed first language and essay. The only other participant from San Juan High to place in a Tim beating out San Juan High by 80 points. San Juan placed first in seven out of the 10 categories. Clothing for Navajo students Henry Hillson and Company of Albuquerque has recently been granted the Navajo school clothing contract. The program provides clothing to eligible Navajo children enrolled in school from through the sixth grade. The Hillson Company has been granted the clothing con- tract for the past 30 years, as one of the very few companies able to maintain the quality and requirements that apply to clothing for the Navajo children. This year, the children will pre-scho- ol receive the clothing earlier than usual as the contract was approved by the Navaj Tribal Council and Chairman Peterson Zah earlier in the year. The Henry Hillson Company, a subsidiary of Utah Navajo Industries, a 100 percent Navajo owned company with over 6,500 holdovers from previous years. Heidi Slavens, daughter of Jim and Karen Slavens, has accepted a call to the Boston mission. We wish her well.
