Show Emery County Prog ress IB Tuesday, April 4, 1995 Emery FFA Chapter shows talent, spirit in state competition By Kirk Christiansen Emery FFA reporter The Emery FFA Chapter traveled to Logan on March 23 and stayed through the 25th. On the 23rd they attended the leadership competitions and competed in the following contests: Prepared Public Speaking, IFA Scholarship, Farm Credit Services Scholarship, and Parliamentary Procedure. The Parliamentary Procedure Contest is the most competitive team contest in the FFA. The contestants are judged on demonstration in a five categories- - presentation, general effect, oral questions, written test and minutes, along with their overall knowledge. Emery won this contest for the first time ever. Team members include Garrett McMullin, Mistie Johansen, Layne Fox, Kirk Christiansen, Cade Jones and Jordan Hansen. They will travel to Kansas City, Mo., in Awarded the State FFA Degree at the recent FFA Convention are Emery Chapter members, front, leftto right, Jordan Hansen, Shane Ward, Cade Jones, Kirk Christiansen, Rodney Ewell, Kent Christiansen, Brady McMullin, Tyson Ekker and Kirk Johansen advisor. The Emery Chapter from the state meet also includes a second place Farm Bureau Safety Award, and the chapter's favorite honor, being named the Most Enthusiastic Chapter. The chapter also had the largest number of State Degrees-16- . They are: Mandy Sitterud, Kirsten Shurtz, Clerece Jensen, Kirk Christiansen, Kent Christiansen, Jordan Hansen, Brady McMullin, Owen Fillmore, Shane Ward, Jeremiah Ralphs, Michael Christensen, Rodney Ewell, Brandi Madill, Cade Jones and Nolan Gray. Mistie Johansen represented Emery well. She won $50 by placing third in the Prepared Public Speaking Contest. She also received the $400 Farm Credit Services Scholarship, but her most honorable accomplishment was when she was appointed State Vice President of the Utah FFA Association. To become a state officer takes hard work, dedication, enthusiasm, and most of all, contestants must survive three days of stressful interviews. She has done well, and the Emery Chapter is proud of her. The Emery Jr. High FFA Chapter was named the Most Enthusiastic Chapter at the recent state meet. The chapter also placed third in safety, and Mr. Deltas was given the Honorary State Farmer Award. Cassie Jones competed in extemporaneous speaking, and Jeff Humphrey competed in creed. The Most En thusiastic Chapter includes, left to right, Mr. Deltas, Anna Bingham, Canyon View President Brock Fox, San Rafael President Joe Humphrey, Treasurer Jeff Humphrey, Secretary Mandy Fausett and 8th Grade President Cassie Jones. The junior high chapter was third in Farm Safety. Above, Mr. Deltas joins team mem- bers Anna Bingham, Brock Fox, Joe Humphrey and Cassie Jones. The chapter also won the Farm Safety Video Award, Stoney Jensen is winner of electrification contest Stoney Jensen of Elmo and a member of the Emery FFA Chapter was named the State FFA Agricultural Electrification winner and received a $ 1 00 check at the state FFA Convention. State winners will advance to competition for national finalist. National finalists will each receive a plaque, a $250 check and travel expenses to the 68th National FFA Convention in Kansas City, Mo., in November. The national winner will be selected from this group and will receive an additional plaque, a $250 check and the opportunity to participate in the International Travel Seminar. The Agricultural Electrification program recognizes outstanding FFA members for developing skills and knowledge ofbasic electricity used in agriculture and in the home including wiring, energy management, electric motors and the safe use of electricity. The Agricultural Electrification program is one of 29 National r, FFA Proficiency Award program areas that recognize FFA members for achievement in activities leading to careers in agriculture. The Agricultural Electrification award program is sponsored by National Food & Energy Council, Inc. as a special project of the National FFA Foundation. FFA is a national organization of 428,109 members preparing for leadership and careers in the science, business and technology of agriculture. The organization has 7,257 local chapters located throughout the United States, Puerto Rico, Guam and the Virgin Islands. FFA's mission is to make a positive difference in the lives, ofstudents by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education. Local, state and national activities and award programs provide opportunities for students to apply knowledge and skills learned in the classroom.
