Show DRIVER DIES IN W.J. COLLISION A freak two-car collision last Thursday night about 9:15 p.m. claimed the life of a Salt Lake City man and resulted in injuries to a West Jordan couple. The victim was identified as John L. Allred, 69, 151 N. 7lh West. He was dead on arrival at the Salt Lake General Hospital. Trooper Richard J. Brown, Utah Highway Patrol, said neighbors and passersby extricated Mr. Allred from beneath the wheel of his car. He was found face-down in about 10 inches of water in a shallow canal. Officers end volunteers applied artificial respiration in vain. It was believed that Mr. Allred had drowned, drown-ed, Trooper Brown said. Investigators said the victim was traveling north on Redwood Road and at 7090 S. Redwood Road his car collided with a car backing from a private drive way. Driver of the backing car was Harry Girard, 59, 314 Pine St. He was hospitalized with bruises and abrasions and his wife, Grace, 58, was treated for a shoulder injury. The impact knocked the backing car spinning against a utility pole. Mr. Allred's car continued along Redwood Road until it too smashed against a utility pole. The driver was thrown from his car and was pinned face-down in the ditch under un-der the right front wheel. A dog, riding in Mr. Allred's car was uninjured. |
