Producer Daniel Lanois (who has worked with Peter Gabriel and U2) helped them accomplish this; Yellow Moon takes elements from many walks of life. The strongest songs on the album "are Sister Rosa," an interesting blend about the. woman who triggered the Civil Rights Movement by refusing to give up her seat to a white man in an Atlanta bus; "My Blood," a song with distinct African and Jamaican sounds about oppressed people around the world; "A Change Gonna Come," an eerie version of Sam Cooke's classic (on which Brian Eno helps out with keyboards); and "With God On Our Side," the Nevilles' version of Bob Dylan's protest song questioning the validity of U.S. rhetoric. political off on the leadvocals, while Art trade Aaron and Cyril covers the keyboards and Charles delivers some amazing sax work. Most of the Neville Brothers strengths are showcased here, and the pop influence is just strong enough that it should -,; bririg the band the new audiences .it wants and deserves without alienating old friends. My only complaint is that the demolishing power of the band's live performances is nowhere to be found on this album, but overall it's a pleaser and highly recommended. The Neville Brothers will open for Ziggy Marley and the Melody Makers tomorrow night at Park West.
