The major contributing factor to this achievement was the aircraft's avionics package a world of mysterious "black boxes" that allow the aircraft to perform its "magic!" These line replaceable units, or LRUs, as the maintenance community refers to them, are probably the costliest items on board a jet, but are worth every penny. If these components go bad, they're taken to a test station that simulates actual conditions they would undergo during the course of flight. On occasion, these LRUs have failures during operational checkouts but go undetected when tested by conventional means. When this occurs, a deficiency report (DR) is submitted by the discovering activity and then I. (better known as the Gatekeeper) start the ball rolling! There have been several instances where the term Gatekeeper has been previously used, but here at Ogden Air Logistics Center, there is only one Gatekeeper. In short, as the twolevd technical screcner. my job is to review all avionics deficiency reports and 1) identify potential bad actors; 2) validate reports as outlined in technical order and 3) verify the facility where the DR'd item was last repaired. My responsibilities are to: Provide a knowledgeable link among and between depot maintenance facilities, field units, the system program director and engineering agencies. F-1- 6 4; ap- plicable or responsible engineering staff or technical staff to place DRs into the analysis cycle or to route directly to a maintenance facility for repairs. Determine the "true" status of a bad actor item using the existing maintenance data collection system. Communicate promptly with field units. ALC maintenance faculties, engineering and technical agencies. As an avionics maintenance specialist my responsibilities are to: mainB Serve as the two-levtenance avkxiic and Automatic Test Station advisor to the contact point. Maintain an awareness of susavionics and ATS anompected alies functioning as a source of corporate knowledge. Provide specific information on the results and thought processes which led to the actions taken in the DRs to field units, engineering, depot maintenance and technical agencies. Review and advise the contact point on actions needed on avionics DRs. Make recommendations to the contact point on the analysis path the DR will take, the administrative closing of DRs, the disposition need of DR assets, and the verbiage input in the deficiency reporting database (G021). Sound busy? I am, but there's not a whole lot more that I'd rather be doing! Finding solutions to people's avionics problems and making friends worldwide is what I enjoy doing most.
