"We had a good turnout. It was good to see all of the kids and spouses this was their day. Everybody seemed to be having lots of fun," said MSgt. Bill Valentine, organizer of the event. "I'd like to thank all of the volunteers. We couldn't have done it without them." Maj. Such was the scene recently at the Air Force Reserve's Senior Enlisted Advisors Conference in Ogden July "I was drafted into the Army. My first experiences with senior NCOs back then as an E-- l weren't very good. Being in the same room with all of you brings back those memories and is a bit intimidating." Brig. Gen. John Batbie jokingly told the group of about 35 chief master sergeants attending the conference. Batbie, chief of Flans and Programs for the Air Force Reserve, was one of a host of guest speakers at the conference. In his remarks he gave the conferees a snapshot of the Air Force Heserve. He also painted a picture of 12-1- its future, saying although the Reserve will probably shrink in terms of overall manpower, there is a good chance it will establish new missions the near future in areas including: space operations; associate AWACS and fighter units; and combat camera a operation. 200-perso- n Maj. Gen. Robert A. Mcintosh, Air Force Reserve commander, also made a presentation at the conference. He stressed the importance of mentoring, cultural diversity, building a quality culture, rewarding good troops and taking care of people negatively impacted by BRAC actions and force structure changes. CMSgt. Jim McCowan, 419th Fighter Wing senior enlisted advisor, attended the conference. He said. "The value of conferences like this is that enlisted leadership gets together collectively to compare notes and share ideas. It's also a great opportunity to discuss concerns with people like General Mcintosh. A lot of the good changes that happen in this command spring from dialogues that started in forums like this.!' ...... Chiefs conference Photo by Mo. Ken Warren CMSgt.
