Wednesday, Maj. Gen. Stephen P. Condon, Ogden Air Logistics Center commander, will initiate the base's plan to take Attorney General Jan Graham's domestic violence awareness program, "Safe At Home: The Workplace Program," to every individual employed by the base. "Attorney General Graham has taken a very proactive approach to family violence with this program. I not only applaud it. but all of us here at Hill strongly support the education process as the best method of prevention," says Condon with regard to The Workplace Program. "As the single largest employer in Utah. Hill AFB intends to be as proactive as the attorney general's office and its community-baseteams in eduabout its people family violence." cating "The success of this program depends largely on business leaders who recognize the epidemic of family violence in Utah and are willing to open their doors to our program," stresses Graham. "I admire General Condon's commitment to this issue and to his employees, and I hope other leaders will join us in this effort to make sure our families are save in their own homes." d Graham launched the program in October 1994, and since then, she and her volunteers have taken the presentation to more than 13,000 people throughout the state. The program dispels many of the myths surrounding domestic vio- X lence and includes a video which graphically depicts a family trapped in the cycle of violence, as well as three local experts who will provide information about treatment, legal remedies and shelter services for the area. The response has been dramatic, helping many victims and perpetrators recognize the pattern in their own lives and come to grips with the destructive cycle in which they are trapped. Domestic violence physically harms more than 60.000 women and over 144,000 children in Utah every year. Currently, it is estimated that family violence costs American business owners approximately S6 billion a year in absenteeism, decreased productivity and health care costs. Hosts for the program have included a variety of businesses, including manufacturing companies, medical facilities, schools, government offices, car dealerships and professional associations. The references to contractor requirements also apply to the Ogden Air Logistics Center as it moves to an ISO quality system as directed by headquarters Air Force Materiel Command. To meet International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 9000 series quality standards, a contractor is responsible to control the material or test equipment used for inspections and measurements on his produced product. The contractor is responsible to establish and maintain documented procedures that certify their control of calibrations and maintenance of inspection, measuring and test equipment (in9000-base- d test software) used to demonstrate the conformance of their product to the specified requirements. When test software or comparative references are used as forms of inspection, they are to Ik? checked to prove that they are capable of verifying the acceptability of produc t. The contractor is also required to recheck this equipment at specified intervals. The contractor is responsible to establish the extent and frequency of such checks and must maintain records as evidence of conformance. To do this, the contractor must maintain written procedures to assure contract performance and quality of product cluding being produced. Following is a list (not all inclusive) of procedures that must be in place to conform to contract requirements. The con- tractor must: Determine which measurements are to be made on the product being produced: the accuracy, or accuracies required, and then select the appropriate inspection, measuring and test equipment capable of measuring the necessary accuracy. Properly mark the test equipment with a suitable indicator or identification record that shows the calibration status. Have procedures to assess and document the validity of equipment or products that were produced by the use of test equipment that was later found to be out of calibration. Ensure that his or her environmental conditions are suitable for the calibration, inspections, measurements and tests being carried out. Ensure that the handling, preservation and storage of inspection, measuring and test equipment is such that the accuracy and fitness for use is not comprised in any manner. Safeguard inspection and measuring test equipment, and facilities, including test handware and software, from unauthorized adjustments which would invalidate the calibration setting. - Additional documents are available to in setting up a viable to with the management system comply of their measuring equipment. ISO 10012-1- . "Quality Assurance Requirements for Measuring Equipment." provides requirements for a detailed metrological confirmation system for measuring equipment. This standard contains quality assurance requirements for a supplier to ensure that measurements are made with the intended accuracy. It contains guidance on implementing requirements. The standard specifies the main features of the confirmation system to be used for a supplier's measuring equipment. For more information call Jeran Bingham at the Air Force Quality Office.
