Show HILL TOP TIMES Friday, April 11, 1986 ose volemii sCuDones ion eweouiimg By Charles Freeman Ogden Office ALC Public Affairs There was a sense of excitement that filled the air in the base theater last Friday night as the Hill AFB Talent Contest got under way. A standing room only crowd came out to see some of the best r f 1 it $ Ft' rJm3mm v talent in the area and they weren't disappointed. Instrumental groups opened and closed the show but it was evident the audience was captivated most by the vocal artists. In fact last Friday night's contest could have been billed as the Pamela Hillmon and W.T. Johnson Show. Ms. Hillmon, who competed in the female vocalist division and the vocal duet division, took home more trophies than she could carry. She not only won the first place award in the female vocalist category, but was also awarded the "Crowd Pleaser" trophy. In the vocal duet category, Ms. Hillmon teamed up with W.T. Johnson as he two stirred up the audience as well as the judges with a song titled "By Way of Love's Express" to take first place in that category. Then came the announcement for the winner (in this case winners) for "Best of Show. "It was Ms. Hillmon and Mr. Johnson once again. The instrumental group category was a battle of the rock bands with "Matrix" winning the first place trophy and the "Brain Surgeons" coming in second. If judges were awarding trophies on costume design, these two groups would have probably won again. Bruce Krallman proved to be tops in the instrumental solo category. Mr. Krallman performed a drum solo that got plenty of response from the audience. Darrin Ros placed second with four-minu- te a guitar solo. - 4 I' I if 4 1 PMi (U.S. Air Force Photo by Dan Joines) Pamela Hillmon and W.T. Johnson, winners of the "Best of Show" award in last week's base talent show Andrew Holmes, the master of ceremonies, provided all the laughs, sometimes with help from the audience. During his comedy routine he kept the crowd in stitches with jokes about his "ugly" wife who also couldn't cook: "Once she made some toast and it had bones in it," he said. The audience screamed with laughter. A group called "Ultimate" which consisted of three break dancers Deanna Wallace, Alan Harper and Robert Jones won first place in the dance category. The second place winner went to Veronica Welchert who did a modern ballet dance to the song "What A Feeling" from the movie Flashdance.
