The volume will be developed around historical in- cidents and illustrated with photos. Shuttle refuels, lays over at Kelly May 'Airman' highlights Turkey What was scheduled to be a refueling stop for the Space Shuttle Challenger at Kelly AFB, Texas, turned out to be a two-niglayover at that Force Air Logistics Command base. Unfavorable weather conditions caused the delay and allowed thousands of citizens in the San Antonio area to see the Challenger. The Boeing 747 carrying Challenger landed at Kelly April 14 for a scheduled refueling stop. Then rainy weather conditions, primarily over storm-swep- t Louisiana prevented its scheduled and departure delay until April 16. (LOGNEWS) 90-minu- te ht Museum. (AFNS) Reserve units get AWC program The Air War College will begin its seminar program at reserve units in August 1983. Deadline for reservists to return completed applications to the college is June 1. The training office at Air Force Reserve Headquarters is sending applications and details on enrollment procedures to all Reserve units. The two-yea- r program will have the same basic curriculum and eligibility requirements as the active-dut- y program. One exception will be that each AWC course volume and writing assignment must be completed within one year. (AFNS) CCAF spring graduation largest ever The largest spring graduating class in Community College of the Air Force history will receive degrees this month when 2,440 members graduate at Air Force bases throughout the world. The men and women earning degrees during this month's commencement ceremonies will bring the number to more than 23,000. (AFNS) Key general officers reassigned Air Force Assistant Vice Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Hans H. Driessnack will be succeeded on his retirement July 1 by the present Air Force Inspector General, Lt. Gen. Howard Leaf. General Leaf will be succeeded by Lt. Gen. Robert W. Bazley, present vice commander, U.S. Air Forces in Europe, Maj. Gen. Carl H. Cathey Jr., present commander, 3rd Air Force, RAF MUdenhaU, England, has been nominated for promotion to lieutenant general and reassigned as Vice Commander, USAFE, July 1. Maj. Gen. William P. Acker, vice commander, Air Training Command, will become the new commander of 3rd Air Force. Lt. Gen. James E. Dalton, will be assigned as chief of staff, Supreme Headquarters, Allied Powers, Europe and has been nominated to the grade of general. General Dalton is currently Director, Joint Staff, Office of the Joint Chiefs of Staff in Washington General Dalton will succeed Gen. Richard L. Lawson, who will be assigned Aug. 1 as Deputy Commander in Chief, U.S. European Command. General Lawson will succeed Gen. William Y. Smith, who will retire Aug. 1. General Smith served as Deputy Commander In Chief, U.S. European Command, since July 1981.
