I just barely got a hold of the handle han-dle and straightened my arm before 1 slammed into the wall on the other side. 1 ping ponged my way down the rest of the course. My top speed had been oxer 62 mph during my second run. No doubt that was during mv stretch of not hitting the wall It would end up being the tastest top speed of the all the nine racers for the day. I was really excited about how fast 1 had cone but was a bit rattled from the sled hitting the wall so hard. "Generally the bigger you are the faster you go and the harder you hit the wall. But 1 did get some bragging rights and it definitely gave us all something to talk about on the ride back to the top. ho had the fastest top speed and who had the fastest overall times. My overall times were not as good as my top speed because bouncing off the Check us out on-line at YVYvw.parkrecord.com r v : 10 SUtwihAa Dwvt NOW lASiq fOR MURIATE OCClpANCY pROfESSfcml officE space. 1ST floOR pROfESSiONAlRETAil (ROM 1,259 S.Q. t. Once again 1 had survived completely com-pletely unscathed and was eager to do even belter. Before the third run we were given instructions on how to steer. We were told to lift our head ever so slightly and look to the side just a bit. It sounded govni to nie because 1 noticed that as speed increased it had become more difficult to stay in the middle of the track by shear willpower and concentration alone. So off I went on my third run. Mv heart was pounding so hard and I was so pumped with adrenaline adrena-line as to make the experience surreal, sur-real, like a dream. Once again 1 was staying in the middle but as the speed increased I began to drift toward the walls so I lifted my head and looked to the side. Just as I did so the sled veered sharply to the side and 1 glanced off the wall. I tried to correct by looking to the other side but 1 must have overcorrected because the sled went almost sideways and I slammed headfirst into the wall with my helmet I was completely discombobulated by the impact. I was seeing stars and had been pushed back on the sled causing my elbows to stick out the sides and my knees to drag. When your knees drag it makes the sled unstable unsta-ble and it fish tails all over the place. I was still going over 50 mph and the "G" forces made it almost impossible to pull myself completely com-pletely back onto the sled. I glanced off the left wall with my elbow and tired again to pull mvself back onto the sled but as 1 did so the sled veered hard left into a steep turn and 1 slammed hard into the right wall with my elbow. For a second I thought my arm was broken because 1 lost my grip. But I was too pumped with adrenaline to feel anything so 1 really Couldn't tell. 1 managed to grab the grip and push mvsell back onto the sled just as 1 got sideways and hit the wall headfirst again. I managed to stay on the sled this time but I was bouncing off the walls after that all the way down. It's not like you hit the wall and then ou lav there or some thing, it's like you hit the wall and vour still going 50 to 60 mph hit-tina hit-tina three "()" turns and trying to hang on It was just amaing. 1 arrived at the finish line battered bat-tered and bruised. No broken bones and all body parts were still attached. Which was a relief but as the adrenaline began to wear off it was a bit painful as 1 had a goose egg knot on my right elbow the sie of a baseball. Alter our first run we were given a tour of the control tower. Thev had divens of TV monitors to keep track of us as we ran the course. It is an impressive facility designed to monitor the safety of the athletes. Anyway 1 had survived the adventure and would thus live to tell the tale. "So if you are looking for the ultimate in high-speed adrenaline you might want to try being an Olympic skeleton athlete for a dav. Then again, like rodeo bull riding you might want to just sit safely in the stands and watch. F or more information contact Bob Bills at stu-:i:-::i7. End of season Young Riders wrap-up T, ' -.
