However, Tatton went on to say,"Graduation is not just the end of high school-it school-it is the beginning of our lives." "In 31 years, I have yet to run into a tougher, more competitive, more in-your-face athlete but also one of the nicest men you'd ever met," said PCHS Principal Mike Andrews of Roger Osguthorpe. The student speeches reflected on their past achievements and aspirations for their futures. Another common thread in the student speeches was a "thank you" to fellow students for their openness and friendships. Board hires assistant by ANDREA MATHER Record staff writer The Park City School Board announced the hiring of two full-time full-time assistant principals for Park City High School and Treasure Mountain Middle School at its Tuesday, June 16 meeting. Hal Smith, PCHS part-time assistant principal and social studies teacher, and Carla Hunt, TMMS part-time assistant principal, will return to their respective schools with expanded roles. Val Chin, board president, said,"Both of these individuals are incredibly dedicated individuals." The board also announced Bill Kahn, PCHS science teacher, will serve as the school district's part-time part-time director of support services. He will oversee construction projects as well as computer services. It also announced its intention to hire a part-time counselor for TMMS. TAX NOTES The board authorized Bprke Jolley, district business manager, w . v ..tt ..,.. - v : to issue tax notes on July 1 to raise S3.5 million in revenue. Because the district does not receive tax revenues from the county until the end of December, it has a shortfall from July to December, said Jolley. First Security Bank will sell the notes, which are similar to bonds, in $25,000 allotments; and the notes will earn 3.8 percent tax-free interest, he said. Until the money is needed, it will be reinvested in the state treasurer's pool and is expected to earn 5 percent interest. ACTIVITY BUSES The board announced it will supply two buses to take PCHS students home after school activities. The service will be evaluated in December to determine if enough students use the bus to warrant the costs. Patti Fellows, district transportation director, said it will cost $23,000 to operate the buses. However, if at least ten students ride the buses, the district could receive $11,500 from the state to pay for the added expense, said Fellows. now, vy cm QUAIJTV willy WEE! THE BMW 318? ALTERNATIVE HOUSING According to an alternative schedule meeting memo from Moore in the board's information packet, "From all appearances, it seems there will be some type of alternative schooling, construction of a new elementary school and an increase in taxes." The district plans to publish and distribute alternative housing brochures with information including "costs, impact on the community and education and the scope of the solution," the memo also states. The committee will met again in the fall and wants to have recommend an option to the board in December. It is also considering conducting a district-wide district-wide survey to determine what people know about alternative housing and their schedule preferences and possibly producing an informational videotape.
