When they received this assignment ten years ago, after 15 years of living elsewhere, they were delighted to discover dis-cover all they could about their new hometown. The Springville Museum of Art soon became one of their favorite places. Linda has served as a volunteer at the Springville Spring-ville Museum of Art for the past five years, ever since their daughter was Art Queen in the Art Royalty. According to Linda, one of the best parts of service is being part of an organization organiza-tion that gives so much to the community. Linda says, "My favorite part of volunteer services is seeing how vital the museum is to Springville, and the number of activities activi-ties available there at any given time." Linda's various volunteer volun-teer opportunities have included working at the Art City Days Children's Art Festival, chairman of the Art Ball committee and deskdocent duties. "There is so much to enjoy en-joy at the museum," said Linda. One her favorite pieces is J. Kirk Richards', "Keepers of the Holy City," part of the museum's permanent per-manent collection normally normal-ly on the upper level. It is currently in storage while the Thiebaud exhibit takes place. A quilter herself, the summer Quilt Show also delights her. She also loves the amount of James C. Christensen's artwork which makes its way to the museum, either in the permanent collection or the many special shows such as the Annual Spring Salon or the Spiritual and Religious Art show in the autumn. She loves the fact that so much of the art is accessible and that, with an artist like Christensen, you can often watch a family fam-ily of artists at work, when other family members contribute con-tribute their pieces to various vari-ous shows. The past few years, Linda Lin-da has indulged in another love, gardening. She has completed several courses in gardening at Thanksgiving Thanks-giving Point and now holds a Master Gardener certificate. cer-tificate. This is something she hopes to use in future with the museum. Linda envisions a cadre' of local gardeners as perhaps a Friends of SMA gardening garden-ing club, happily planning, planting and maintaining r -, .. , "nr. - - "'" , " Hundreds of children lined up for a chance to make their own pot at the pottery booth during the Children's Art Festival held on June 13 at the Springville Museum of Art Auditions for upcoming play Anyone interested is invited to audition for "Rockrollers and Pancakes." Pan-cakes." This play is an original written by Bill Brown of Springville. It had its premier showing in 1998 at the Villa Playhouse in Springville. Since then it has been performed several sev-eral times. Auditions will be held Saturday, June 28, from 10 a.m. to noon and Tuesday, July 1, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Valley Center Playhouse, Play-house, 780 N. 200 East in Lindon. This is an excellent excel-lent opportunity for family fam-ily members to perform together. ; The story is based on true events from the director's di-rector's childhood. His parents were evicted from their rental home after a serious head injury to the father. One thing led to another and this family of seven children found themselves them-selves homeless living in a tent in Provo Canyon during dur-ing the 1950's. This show will be double cast and will play each Friday, Fri-day, Saturday and Monday, Mon-day, August 22 through September 29 the gardens at the Springville Spring-ville Museum of Art, especially es-pecially the new sculpture garden currently being constructed. Linda says one of the best things about Springville is the number of citizens who are so willing to volunteer vol-unteer in the community. She loves the beautiful gardens gar-dens here and hopes some of the local gardeners will accept her invitation to contribute con-tribute to the beauty of the new sculpture garden. She hopes others will come to the Springville Museum and put their names down as a volunteer, whether it is for the gardens or other duties, du-ties, and bring their talents to share with the community commu-nity at large. - II I Ifii !
