Beach Boys set BYU appearance Word was received at Brigham Young University Friday (Aug. 20) that the Beach Boys nationwide concert tour, which included a performance at BYU on Sept 16, has been cancelled. A spokesman from Concerts West of Seattle, the agency booking the famous group on its first tour in several years, said that the group felt it was necessary to go back into a recording session before it made public perfomances on tour. No indication was given concerning when they will re-negotiate for the tour. . Janette Knight Springville Drama, under the direction of Jesse Dalton, will present two very special plays during Founders Day celebrations this year. The first "Box and Cox" will be presented before the main attraction, which will be an old pioneer favorite "Two Orphans." The play was written by a Frenchman and introduced in New York in 1867. It was presented in the Springville Opera House many times. I quote from an old newspaper clipping. "The play 'Two Orphans' Or-phans' created a sensation. Many people came from Provo to see it." Our pioneers best loved entertainment en-tertainment was plays, musicals, and balls. They appreciated ap-preciated and supported good drama, and they could really become engrossed in the . plot and lived it with the actors as shown in this old quote. "In the last act when Pierre' draws his carving knife and defies Jacques to touch Louise, a cowboy sitting in the middle of the house leaped to his feet and shouted 'Stay with him Crip! ' As the audience laughed and applauded, ap-plauded, the excited individual settled to his seat very much abashed." "The Springville Dramatics took the 'Two Orphans' to Sanpete and created a perfect furor of delight They liked it so well that many followed to the adjoining towns to see it repeated. At Spring City, in the last act Old Frochard has driven Louise upstairs just as Henrietta has entered in search of her and demands of the old woman to know where she is. The hag denies any knowledge of her whereabouts. The situation was very tense, the audience still as death, when a cry came from the audience, 'The old is lying, she's upstairs."' "Two Orphans" was later made into a movie called "Orphans of the Storm" and starred the famous Gish sisters. Springville was early known for its great dramatics. Our modern day Springville dramatics have recreated this "Perfect furor of delight" in honor of our pioneers in this special Bicentennial year. It will be presented at the Art Museum Aggust 11, Monday for a family night and continue until Thursday. CONSISTENCY A foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds, adored by little statesmen and philosophers and divines. Constitutions should consist only of general provisions; the reason is that they must necessarily be permanent, and that they cannot calculate for the possible change of things. We are under a Constitution, bu the Constitution is what the judges say it is. Leaning contest to be part of Onion Days A record field leaning foe a record purse.
