Show Vernal Express, Wednesday, February 1. 2006 B3 I A friend to Vernal Joshua Allen Nastiuk and Chelsea Dawn Hall Hall and Nastiuk marry l in Hawaii January 5 Chelsea Dawn Hall and Joshua Allen Nastiuk married Jan. 5, 2006 in Kauai, Hawaii on Shipwreck Beach. The reception recep-tion will be August 5, 2006 in Silt, Colo. The bride is the daughter of Evan Hall and Sue Ann Bilbey of Vernal, and John and Velda Costanzo of Silt, Colo. The groom is the son of Kim Fletcher of Gold Beach, Ore. and the grandson of Mike Nastiuk of Silt, Colo. Josh and Chelsea both graduated grad-uated from Rifle High School in 2001 and are now making their new home in Silt, Colo. At the New Year, many are resolving to improve in this or that way. Perhaps it would be worthwhile worth-while to honor people who have already made a positive posi-tive difference to their neighbors, neigh-bors, by some selfless act, or a well-lived life. Dr. Tyrrell and Dorothy Seager would certainly certain-ly be on any list of Vernal's benefactors. Dr. Seager, a retired general gen-eral practitioner, jokes that it seems he has helped deliver, or has treated, half of Vernal. And with some reason, since he's been doctoring here for more than half a century. He is constantly being greeted by friends and well-wishers, and is the most universally respected respect-ed citizen of Vernal that we know of. One reason for this is the volunteerism that has characterized charac-terized his life. To take just one example, he put many hours into establishing the Steinaker Correction of Church Directory An error was made in last week's Church Directory. The correct times for Grace Baptist Church, 3816 S. 2500 E., Vernal, 789-8738, are: Sunday School 9:45 a.m.; Sunday Morning Worship Service 11 a.m.; Sunday Evening Praise and Preaching 6 p.m.; Wednesday Evening Family Bible Study and Prayer 7 p.m.; Thursday Evening Joy Club kids 6:30 p.m. Notes from the Uintah Mountain Club Trail, which allows people to walk along the Steinaker Service Canal from 500 North to Highway 40. It was only the beginning of the system of walking and bicycling trails he envisioned for the existing exist-ing canal paths that lace the Ashley Valley. Hopefully his vision will continue to be realized real-ized and expanded. There were many other "pet projects" that the Seagers were involved in. They donated the lion's share of the funds for the new Allosaurus model that now resides at the new Field House, while encouraging the rest of the community to help in that effort. But the Seagers are best known for their spring and summer flower walks. Certainly these trips started many of us down the path of botanical study. Decades of exploring the Basin gave the Seagers an encyclopedic knowledge knowl-edge of local history, archeology, archeolo-gy, and geology, but especially a knowledge of the local plants. Dr. Seager never tired of showing show-ing off the beauty of a lupine, or the contrast between the fragility of the flowers and the arid desert that is their backdrop. back-drop. On these walks, open to anyone, he has helped to instill the love of wild things and beautiful scenery in many Vernal citizens. Sometimes he brought the flowers to us, rather rath-er than vice versa, by presenting present-ing wildflower slide programs of great beauty. Every year, there would be a new calendar on his wall, noting not-ing the date of the first appearances appear-ances of various flower species. The Seagers traveled regular regu-lar "beats" that were sure to have a nice floral display. For example, he could be counted on for an early spring tour up the Drive Through the Ages, behind Red Fleet Reservoir, and back to Vernal by way of Brush Creek. On these trips, Dr. Seager would sometimes finish the description of some favorite species, then cap off the lecture by taking a pull on a tiny silver flask of brandy. bran-dy. There were always lemon drops to suck on in his truck. A pretty unforgettable guy. It is with great sadness that the Seagers are moving from Vernal to the Wasatch Front. It is, indeed, the passing of an era. 8 fir 3 ID Sip :v ' ptfg h? II j j Stop by our booth Feb 4 at Western i?"v" Park during Women's Day Out to fsLSiL & find out about our Women's Day Out &i po.
