The charges stem from a series of events on Jan. 2 in the Ute-Ouray Reservation. Sgt. As a result, the Uintah County Farm Bureau is celebrating cel-ebrating Jan. 29 Feb. 4, 2006, as Food Check-Out Week. To commemmorate the occasion, Andrea Schoenfeld, the Uintah County Farm Bureau Women's Committee Chair, and Dianne Batty, president pres-ident of the Uintah County Farm Bureau, met up at Davis Jubilee to present a random shopper with a gift. The lucky shopper was Patti Williams, and the Farm Bureau representatives repre-sentatives paid for the groceries grocer-ies she was buying that day. "This is so nice," Williams said, laughing. The vehicle went north to Highway 40 where it turned east. Uintah County Sheriffs deputies dep-uties responded from Vernal. Deputy Rocky Samuels set up vehicle spikes on the Highway. After hitting the spikes, the vehicle stopped and the driver, driv-er, John Anthony Larett, was arrested. The passenger Jolita Josephine Queacut, was the victim of a severe beating and was transported to Uintah Basin Medical Center. Queacut later told officers that Larett, who is non-Indian, is her estranged common-law husband with whom she has had two sons. She said they had been separated four months, and she and her sons were liv ing with her mother. Court records indicate that earlier that night, Larett became upset when he was refused a visit with his sons because they were already asleep. After Larett was turned away, Queacut heard the front room door being kicked open. She entered her sister's bed room and closed the door. She woke her sister up and told her to call the police. Larett crashed through the bedroom door and took the telephone away from the sister. Queacut tried to get past him out the door, but Larett grabbed her by the hair and began to punch and kick her in the head. He dragged her to his vehicle, forced her inside and sped away from the home.
