Uintah Basin Medical Center announced this week that it is implementing a new medication medica-tion delivery system that integrates inte-grates a scalable and customizable custom-izable patient safety software with intravenous IV pumps. The system will help nursing staff reduce the risk of medication medica-tion errors. Nurses will administer admin-ister and manage the medication medica-tion dose limits and tracking IV drug delivery at the patient bedside. The addition is just one of several recent investments invest-ments Uintah Basin Medical Center has undertaken to enhance patient safety and maintain quality patient care. "At Uintah Basin Medical Center, we are committed to healthcare we provide to patients throughout the Basin," said Vicki Holzman, Quality Improvement Administrator. "IV therapy is an important and routine way to deliver medication medica-tion in the hospital. Our new medication delivery system will help us ensure right at the patient bedside that these medicines are ordered, programmed and delivered accurately." The medication delivery system sys-tem was developed by Illinois-based Illinois-based Hospira, Inc., one of the largest hospital products manufacturers man-ufacturers in the United States. The company develops, manufactures manu-factures and markets products that help improve the productivity produc-tivity and safety of patient care. The new IV system is designed to help nurses, physicians, physi-cians, pharmacists and other clinical staff ensure that the right patient receives the right drug in the right dose at the right time and rate of infusion. The system integrates a new IV pump with Hospira MedNet TM, a scalable and customizable customiz-able drug library software. With the new solution, UBMC will be able to create a customized cus-tomized library of up to 2,700 IV drug and fluid names prescribed pre-scribed throughout the hospital, and program specific dosing limits for 18 different clinical areas, such as intensive care, pediatrics and surgery. The system alerts clinicians if they have programmed a medication dose outside of the predetermined limits set by the hospital. The system also logs these alerts, which allows UBMC to track trends in compliance com-pliance with dosing and clinical clini-cal best practices. Ute Energy, LLC, an affiliated affili-ated oil and gas company of the Northern Ute Indian Tribe, along with Berry Petroleum Company, announced successful success-ful exploration efforts in their Lake Canyon prospect located in the Uintah Basin of Utah. The Lake Canyon prospect is west of Brundage Canyon, located within the Ute Tribe's reservation. As project operator, opera-tor, Berry initiated a two well shallow exploration program to test the Green River formation forma-tion in late 2005. The Nielsen Marsing and Taylor Herrick discovery wells have tested production rates of 98 barrels and 163 barrels of oil equivalent equiva-lent per day, respectively. "We are delighted with the early results of the two test wells and their significance to our newly formed energy company, Ute Energy," said Maxine Natchees, chairman of the Tribal Business Committee. "The Tribe has allowed third-party third-party producers to develop our lands for decades, and Ute Energy represents the first attempt at becoming an active participant in the development of our lands. The Tribe has aligned itself with successful operators like Berry Petroleum in a strategic step to building our own energy company." "Berry Petroleum Company is extremely grateful to have the opportunity to explore and develop oil and natural natu-ral gas from Ute lands," said Berry Petroleum CEO Bob Heinemann. "Berry understands under-stands the cultural sensitivities sensitivi-ties of working on the reservation, reserva-tion, and we strive to be a good steward of the lands. "Access to these Indian Country lands offers us the opportunity to search for oil and gas in a resource-rich area that is vastly under-explored. Berry understands the Tribe is becoming an active developer of their resource base, and we are honored to partner with the Tribe during this transition." transi-tion." Ute Energy owns 25 percent working interest in the shallow shal-low zones of the Lake Canyon Prospect in Utah's Uintah Basin that covers approximately approxi-mately 171,000 acres. The Lake Canyon Prospect is one of four major project areas that the newly formed Ute Energy is actively developing with industry indus-try partners. "We are extremely pleased with the early results out of Lake Canyon and the opportunity opportu-nity to work alongside Berry Petroleum and Bill Barrett Corporation on this project. In the eight months since the formation of Ute Energy, the company has established production pro-duction in four project areas," said John Junius, CEO of Ute Energy, LLC. "The Tribal membership should be quite pleased with their vision to build a Tribal energy company in an effort to manage then-vast then-vast energy resource." In the upcoming year, Ute Energy anticipates it will participate par-ticipate in over 50 new wells on reservation land as a co-developer.
