Park City's next opponent will be 4A East at Park City High School Thursday at 7 p.m. Park City boys' basketball South Summit boys9 basketball Don't blink, but the Park City High School boys' basketball team is turning the preseason nype into reality so far this young season. After throttling 4A Spanish Fork in the season opener on Nov. 30, the Miners traveled to Logan and defeated the 4A Grizzlies on their home floor 51-48 last Friday. Park City outscored Logan 17-3 in a fourth quarter that gave the Miners a gritty victory. The Miners faced an 11-point deficit to start the quarter, but when the Grizzlies' offense went into hibernation, Park City took advantage. Brothers Brian and Jono Schettler eached scored 12 points in the win, while junior guard Britton Buford chipped in nine. Senior center Andrew Neuensch wander had seven points, including a 3-pointer. Park City (2-0) will welcome county rival South Summit to its court Friday, as the 1-2 Wildcats look for an upset. Tip-off is at 7 p.m. After dropping the first two games of the season, the defending 2A champion South Summit High School boys' basketball team rebounded with a 51-38 win Saturday over American Leadership Academy in the second game of the Pepsi Classic held at Ben Lomond High School in Ogden. The Wildcats fell in dramatic fashion in their first game of the season 56-55 Dec. 1 to visiting Gunnison, before losing to East in the first round of the weekend tournament on Dec. 3. South Summit had a wellrounded game as Jordan Page had a double-double- 14 points and 10 rebounds- in the win against ALA. The backcourt of Parker Anderson (11 points) and Trevor Rydalch (10 points) helped the Wildcats put the Eagles away with a 13-4 third quarter. Next up for South Summit are the 3A defending state champion Wasatch Wasps who will take the bus ride up to Kamas tonight in a matchup of last year's 2A and 3A finals. A game that was marred by numerous foul calls ended up featuring a combined 56 free throws from both teams. Senior Laurel Kasel had 22 points, including three 3point buckets. Bailey Tibbitts chipped in with 10 points. The Miners couldn't overcome a potent and rounded effort by the Hawks as North Sanpete had three players in double figures. The Lady Cats defeated visiting Gunnison 47-41 last Tuesday and this week will host Union and Duschene before heading on the road to play Rich. North Summit boys' basketball After the season opener against Park City was postponed, the North Summit High School boys1 basketball team has endured a couple close losses while defeating Beaver 71-58 last Friday in the 2A-3A Preseason Preview tournament. Keegan McQueen had a game-high 18 points, including three 3-pointers, while Preston Pace (13 points), Makay Fristrup (11 points) and Braden Brown (13 points) helped the Braves round out their first win of the season. The Braves dropped their season opener to Ben Lomond 56-54 on Dec. 1. The Braves head to Nephi to play Juab tonight and will be traveling to North Sanpete Friday to play the Hawks. North Summit giris' basketball The 0-3 North Summit High School girls' basketball team continues to look for its first win of the 2010 season. The Lady Braves have lost a six-point game to Duchesne and a seven-point game to Grand. Kaitlyn Rowser is averaging 10 points per game for the Lady Braves. |
