Show WedyThurs/Fri, December 8-10, 2010 A-5 The Park Record CITY BEAT CiTY EDITOR: Jay Hamburger 649-90I4 ext.1 11 citynews@parkrecord.com Ohno stops by By JAY HAMBURGER Of the Record staff By just before noon on Saturday, the line outside Dolly's Book Store stretched from the Main Street side toward Swede Alley, with the people buzzing about the Winter Olympics at the start of a winter when there are no Olympics occurring. 'The people were anticipating what would turn out to be very brief encounters with one of America's Olympic heroes: Apolo Ohno, the short track speedskater who won has eight medals during his Olympic career. His haul of medals dates to the 2002 Winter Olympics. . . Ohno visited Dolly's to sign copies of his book "Zero Regrets," arriving aboard a bus decorated with giant pictures of the athlete. A crowd of onlookers not waiting for the book signing snapped photos of him as he left the bus and walked a few steps into Dolly's. • The line of people streamed into the store to have the book signed. The number of people was not clear, but Sue Fassett, the manager at Dolly's, said the store sold 170 copies of the book over the weekend. Most of them were sold on the day he was at the store, she said. Who needs recess? JAY HAMBURGER/FWffiC RECORD Liza Simpson, a Park City Councilor who works at Dolly's Book Store, monitors the crowd outside the bookseller on Saturday as people wait in line for a book-signing event by Olympic champion speedskater Apolo Ohno. Some people left messages for Ohno in the layer of grimy exhaust film that had gathered on his bus. "Kait loves you," was among the messages, but it was not clear whether someone in Park City or at a previous stop left the message. Liza Simpson, a Park City Councilor who works at Dolly's,, let people inside the side door a few at a time to have their books signed. Stan Jester, who lives in Jeremy Ranch, had Ohno sign two books - one for himself and his wife and the other for his 35-year-old daughter. "He was very friendly . . . a nice guy," Jester said, adding, *'He's shown himself to set some very high objectives . . . He's a very good influence on kids." Kim Zabin, who was visiting Park City from Houston, said she and a friend were headed to breakfast when they noticed the crowd outside Dolly's. They stopped and her friend snapped a photo of Ohno. "We're so excited we can hardly stand it," Zabin said. "We're always looking for star sightings."
