Show B-3 T/?e Park Record Wed/Thurs/Fri, January 12-14, 2005 Miners earn back-to-back wins at home Girls beat North Summit and Granite By ISAAC WAITERS Record Intern After opening the season with a disappointing 2-8 record, it appears as if the Park City Girls basketball team may be turning things around. The Miners defeated Granite 51-29 on Friday night for their region opener. The previous night, they defeated North Summit 58-49. It is the first time this season that they have had two victories in a row. It had also been the first time in nearly a month that the girls have played at home. "It was nice to be at home for these games, we were rested and we played well as a result," said head coach Steve Crandall. "We hadn't played at home in nearly a month, and it's nice to back at your home gym where you know the feel of the court," added Crandall. Thursday night's game against North Summit showed just how deadly the Miners are when the outside shots are falling. The Miners nailed seven 3-pointers, including 2 each from Ellie Yagi and Whitney Jones. Kaitlin Jolley led the way for the Miners with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Liz Bailey also added 11 points in the victory. Friday night's home game against Granite was the region opener for the Miners. In a game that most expected to be much closer, the Miners blew out the Mighty Farmers 51-29. Ellie Yagi led the way for the Miners with 13 points. "Ellie played great on offense and defense," said Crandall. Kaitlin Jolley also had another great performance, bringing down 14 rebounds. The Miners will try to keep the winning streak alive playing region games against Union and Uintah this week. i that old ladies could run through," said Louder. The highlight of the other up. Rasmussen hopes to play college football next year at Snow College. Brendoo Anderson, Sesrio^ 61% 230 pounds - (KEBMITB BW^MH Anderson, the comedian of the group, said that he had a successful year, "because he was the fastest player." As an offensive lineman, this may not have been true, but what he lacked in speed, he made up in blocking ability. Anderson played next to Stoddard on the left side of the line. Holmes called them a "great duo" on the line. Anderson said that they were inspired to perform by the running backs "They wanted us to block good, so they could get a lot of yards," Anderson said. He is also supported by the team, with whomhe feels a strong bond. Anderson said that during the season he was focused on working hard and never giving up. Now in the off-season, he's spending time pursuing hobbies such as pool bowling and ping-pong and "working with my two ant farms," he adds with a twinkle in his eye. Anderson is also making plans to attend college, and would like to walk on to a college football team at a different position. Almost every player looked to the first postseason shutout win agaiast Millard as the highlight of the season. "It was a surprise to everyone. Every year before that,, they beat us out. Every paper said we wouldn't win, and we won," said Bagnell. This accomplished group of seniors, many of whom were team captains, have been playing together since they were in seventh grade and spend much of their personal time together. "The younger kids thought we were a lot tighter [than them]. Ever since kindergarten, it s been the same bunch of kids," said Louder. It is this strong bond that may be attributed lo each of their individual success this season and the Braves impressive postseason play.
