City High School has selects! this year's crop of Sterling Sehol;i;s. students who excel in a particular area of study, ranging from dance to math. A program sponsored by the Dcscret Morning News and KSL, Sterling Scholars is a competition amoiii; students for scholarships at Utah colleges. Participating high schools nominate one student in each of up to 14 categories. From that nominee pool, one winner and two runners up are selected for each region of the stale. Summit County schools are in the Northeast Region of the competition, which encompasses Rich, Morgan, Wasatch, Duchesne. Daggct. and Uintah counties as well. There are 14 high schools in this region. Park City teachers Mary Purzycki and Maureen Amendola will spend the next few months helping students develop portfolios and polish their interview skills u>r the competition next sprint-. They'll help students gracefully answer tricky questions like "why should you be the Sterling Scholar?" "M(*st high school students can't do that." Purzycki said. "Most adults can't do that." Amendola described the Sterling Scholars as "gifted but not egocentric."
