The $20 million criminal justice center, located at 1100 West Clark Lane in west Farmington, was initially in-itially scheduled to receive inmates from the old county jail about June 17 just after a special dignitary lockup night. But fire marshals and building inspectors refused to allow inmates to be housed in the facility until after the problems are corrected. Officials hope the problems will be corrected by the end of the month or early July so prisoners can be transferred trans-ferred to the jail. There are about 130 inmates waiting to move into the jail. Davis County Sheriff Glen Clary said moving these prisoners into the new facility will help overcrowding. The old county jail will be used to house weekend and woVk release inmates. The problem with the doors, time conflicts and a lack of interest were also factors in the cancellation of a special lockup night for public officials. offi-cials. Initially scheduled on May 31, the event was moved back until June 14, because the jail was not ready and many would-be guests had other commitments on that night. The sheriff's department had invited civic leaders, the press and other dignitaries to spend the night in an inaugural celebration of the new facility. |
