Show Essay contest slated Utah high school students are invited to participate in the fifth annual an-nual essay contest on the humane use of animals in medical research, sponsored by the Committee for Animals in Research and Education in Utah (CARE-Utah). The topic is "The Miracle of the Transplant" and will focus on how the human-animal team has brought about such medical progress. pro-gress. Students in public, private and parochial schools are eligible to enter. Three finalists will be chosen from the entries which best demonstrate an understanding of the vital role animal research has played in conquering devastating diseases, and the importance of the I t humane use of animals as one of the essential tools of medical re- search. I ' - The first place winner will receive a $500 cash award; second and I third place winners will receive $100 each. I Entries should be no longer than 750 words, and must be I postmarked by April 5. A cover sheet-listing the students name, address, telephone number and school must be included. Judging will focus on originality, creativity and command of the English language, in addition to an understanding of the basic reasons animal use is necessary in biomedical research.
