Show Local mezzo-soprano to present concert at Snow College ? t v : 1 Rebecca Anderson McGarry, mezzo-soprano, will present a duet recital with Jerry Dahl, tenor, on Sunday, Oct. 21, at 8 p.m., at the Snow College Music Building, located at 100 E. and College Street in Ephraim. They will accompanied by pianist, Kathleen Hansen. Admission Ad-mission is free; however, donations toward the Music Building Renova- ; tion Fund will be graciously ac- j cepted. McGarry's lifelong love of music began at an early age. By the time she was four, she was picking out tunes on a piano. She pursued both vocal and instrumental music instruction in-struction throughout her school years, culminating in a Sterling Scholar award in music and being named Outstanding Musician at Manti High School. Her musical talents helped earn her the titles of Miss Manti and Miss Sanpete County. During her college years, McGarry performed in Snow College Col-lege musical productions of 4Fiddler on the Roof," "My Fair Lady,' "Dames at Sea" and "Hello Dolly." She was named Outstanding Vocalist Vo-calist at Snow College and graduated with high honors. She continued her musical studies in Salt Lake City, where she graduated magna cum laude from the University Univer-sity of Utah with both bachelor's and master's degrees in vocal performance. per-formance. McGarry served an LDS mission to Switzerland and France, where she became exposed to the French language, which used in her performances per-formances in opera and recitals. She has also studied German and Italian. Her voice teachers have included JoAnn Ottley, Naomi Fair, Brad Chapman, Gert Muser and Kurt Weinsinger. She has sung as a soloist with the Snow Community performance of Handel's "Messiah" and is well-known in REBECCA MCGARRY Sanpete for her rendition of the national anthem at the Mormon Miracle Pageant. She has appeared with the Utah Opera, Popular Opera Theater, University of Utah Opera, South Salt Lake Stake and Val Verda Stake productions of numerous operas and musicals, most recently appearing in Francis Poulenc's "Dialogues des Carmelites" and "The Princess and the Pea." The mother of six children, Rebecca is married to Paul Thomas McGarry and resides in Bountiful. As a member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS), she continues to share her musical talents by teaching voice in Bountiful and Manti, and by performing per-forming frequently. |
