Show Howells Paint offers teens help in redecorating goals, new look Feeling "really grown up" is the goal of every teen, and one way teen-age girls find to strike out for freedom, and say goodbye to the last shreds of childhood is by redecorating their bedroom. They get rid of the pink carpeting and matching floral wallpaper, the canopy bed and the Cinderella sheets. Manager of Kwal Howells Paint and Wallcoverings, Nard Nebeker, said he is happy to help teens with their redecorating goals. "We have a lot of teens come in who are interested in a new look. They are guided by parents, but most let the kids make final decision," he Osaid. Nebeker added that many teens are looking for bolder, brighter colors. "Some want deep green, deep blue, or even black," he said. When teens ask to redecorate their rooms, it is often their first step toward declaring independence. While most adolescents go through an intermediary stage when they decorate their existing bedrooms with posters of teen idols and rock stars, it isn't until they put their own decorative talents to work that they feel the room actually makes a statement about their new identity- Irma Zandl, president of Xtreme, a company that tracks youth marketing trends, said although parents may cringe at the thought of the cost of redecorating, it can be less than they anticipate. Teen-age girls find it's hard to part with favorite possessions like stuffed animals or glass figurines, so they usually don t start completely over when redecorating, and that can cut down on the cost. |
