Show Did You Know? The American Legion raises and lowers the flags (hat line Main Street of I Bountiful Tor holidays, and over the years il has put up a white cross to honor I each fallen serviceman from our town. This Memorial Dav the Bountiful I Cemetery will have a total of 800 crosses. Not only does the Legion honor the I community's dead heroes, hut it is sponsoring 20 boys chosen from the three 1 local high schools to go to Boys State at Weber University in Ogden this year. I A The Bountiful Lions Club has given the community two boweries at I Bountiful Park, a fountain In the rose garden, the hot pool in the Bubble, I playground equipment for two parks, the tennis courts by the Tire station, and I will equip another playground this summer Along with the Lady Lions, il has I made history at the rifle range by raising thousands of dollars at turkey shoots I to pay for the group's generous gifts to Bountiful, and for eye research at the I University of Utah, The Lions are planning for two volleyball pits and a I concession building north of the Bountiful pool. I A The Soroptimists gave a youth citizenship award of $250 to a Bountiful I High School student this year and also gave a Woman in Need award of $500 I toward the education of a Bountiful woman. Their Valentine party given at the I Community Care Center featured the Senior Citizen band and delicious I refreshments. This year they will send two girls to Girls State at Utah State I University. I A Tri Unis donated money to the homeless and travelers aid. It gave I clothing to the Salvation Army and made Christmas stockings for the senior I citizens, I A The Fine Arts Club invited the public to a lovely evening of music, free of I charge, at the Bountiful Library, on March IL The musical cast wore authentic I costumes and the program featured the music of Mozart. Ithas donated much I toward the furnishings of the library and supported the Bountiful Art Center I with geiierous donations. I A Bountiful Kiwanis contributed two prizes for the Centennial literary and I song contest and have established six scholarships to be given to students from I the three local high schools. They have built a bowery on 18th South near I Mueller Park Junior High. Along with a section of 'Adopt A Highway,' they I have worked to clean up and landscape Bountiful to make it a more beautiful I and desirable place to live. I A The Jessamine Literary Club has chosen the study of Bountiful and its I prominent people for the coming year. Last year it supported Quarters for I Christmas, which bought shoes for needy children. In the past, the Bountiful I City Hall was the recipient of a lovely picture from this group. I A The local chapter of the Sons of Utah Pioneers erected the Heber C I Kimball grist mill monument and this year they will unveil and dedicate three I new monuments on the April 11. These will honor Heber C. Kimball, Daniel I Davis and George Quinn McNeil, who trained bears at the grist mill in I Bnuntiful's early years. Without the organization's help, Boy Scout Matt 1 Williams could not have completed his Eagle project I A The Sego Lily Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution I toured historic Bountiful sites and entered a full page picture of the Bountiful I Tabernacle in the national DAR magazine to promote the city of Bountiful I A The Bountiful Exchange, along with J.B.'s Restaurant, will give the 24th I of July breakfast, and the proceeds will be used in the prevention of child abuse. I The organization landscaped the park east of the Golden Years Center in I Bountiful- It awards plaques to the students of the month in the three local high I schools for excellence in citizenship and study. It also gives a Book of Golden I Deeds award to outstanding Bountiful residents for long-time service in the I community. I A The Bountiful Rotary has been a long-time supporter of scouting. Over I the past 30 years it has given more than 3,500 neckerchiefs to young men who I have achieved Eagle Scout status. The Daughters of Utah Pioneers has spent many years studying and preserving the records and memorabilia of the hardy men and women who settled in Session's Settlement. Much of it has been preserved in the museum crowning main street in Salt Lake City. Our local camps arc caretakers for pioneer cemeteries and cabins in the Bountiful and surrounding areas. A We salute these fine organizations. We say to all Bountiful organizations, "We salute you!" Thank you for helping to make our country and Bountiful City the best place in the world to live. |
