Show I ft) I 'The Wiz' at Woods Cross "The Wiz" will be performed March 20-24 at 7 p.m. at the Woods Cross High auditorium. Tickets will be available at the door. The cast includes: Dwight Beckstrand, as the Scarecrow; Tiffany Smith, as Dorothy; John Moody, as the Cowardly Lion and Alan Kendell, as the Tinman. i 'The Wiz' coming to WXH I i "He's the Wiz-and he lives-in Oz." It's time to "East on Down the Road" to this year's Woods Cross High musical. Woods Cross has a long tradition of excellence in its musicals, and this year will be no exception. ex-ception. This is a show that will delight audiences of all ages. "The Wiz" has never before been performed by a high school in Utah. Tammy Squires, who is directing the choreography this year, has performed in many Hollywood movies, stage plays and musicals. She danced in the nationally televised Academy Awards, directed by Paula Abdul, and has recently returned from Los Angeles to her home town of Bountiful. Kate Ostroski and Sandra Swensen are also directing several of the dance numbers. Together they opened the Bountiful School of Ballet in 1972 after both graduating from the U. of U. with bachelor's of fine arts degrees in ballet. Both have danced professionally in California as well as performed with Ballet West. Sheila Price and her "crew" have built a reputation for unique sets of professional quality. She has been set designer for the last five years. The facilities at Woods Cross are among the best in the state and include an outstanding sound and light system. Bonni Hobbs, the show's director, has a master's degree in speech, English and musical theater and has built a reputation throughout the state for quality and excellence. Her drama department boasts several state championships and has finished in the top three teams in state competition for the past 10 years. This year's musical is unique in that it has several leading roles and yet includes over 150 members of the student body. Tiffany Smith, as Dorothy, is a WX Madrigal and recently re-cently won a No. 1 one rating at solo and ensemble qualifying for state competition. Dwight Beckstrand, Scarecrow, plays trumpet in the Woods Cross Jazz band, which is rated No. 1 in the State, and also plays in the Lagoon band. Alan Kendell placed first in several state drama competitions and competed nationally in New York City representing the state of Utah. John Moody is WX student body president, a Madrigal and also is a member of the Jazz Band. He and Dwight also received No. 1 ratings on their vocal solos and are on the state squad. Several Woods Cross teachers and many parents have been involved with the staff for several months to ready this outstanding performance.
