Show equally." In Bountiful the jail inmates in-mates have soft beds, a clean shower and a color TV, while the homeless have one toothbrush, one i 4 sleeping bag and no home. Please build more homes for the homeless. Nathan Altsop Age 10 You Said It- r Don 't attack citizens' work Editor: In your Feb. 25 issue you attacked attack-ed by way of a front page lead article, arti-cle, editorial and editorial cartoon the findings of the dispatch committee com-mittee that had been given that assignment by the Davis Council of Government (COG). In fact your exact quotation was the report 'is not worth the paper it is printed on and that making copies of the report was a waste of taxpayers' money." As one of the private citizens asked to serve on the committee, I ffN jtook great offense at your unprofessional unprofes-sional attack, especially your ditorial! We met every other week ror six months gathering information, informa-tion, examining data, and visiting each dispatch location in the county. coun-ty. Yet it seems that if our conclusions conclu-sions and recommendations did not meet your already preconceived conclusions, we were in error. The citizens on the committee included in-cluded Dr. Richard Kendell, Superintendent of Davis County Schools; Stuart Tholen, a CPA, Sher Hunt, a manager of several credit unions and myself. The re- maining committee members were jf professionals who represented the three communities in the county o who already have dispatch centers plus Capt. Jake R. Hunt, communications com-munications and emergency services ser-vices director for the Davis County Sheriff's Office. (Two other citizens came to the first few meetings but dropped out before the major load of work even began.) We were given two assignments: 1. If consolidating dispatch services ser-vices would be more efficient? 2. If consolidation would save taxpayer dollars? In the beginning there were difficulties in gathering data, and it took a number of meetings before a harmony was developed between the committee members. The projected pro-jected growth of the county, especially espe-cially in the north end, combined with the amount of money already spent in establishing four dispatch centers had a great effect on the gathering of data. A major problem was separating the exact cost of dispatch in each center as additional assignments were given to employees in the dispatch centers, assignments that would need to be completed at a financial burden to the communities whether the center continued to be part of the city or not. The on-site visits, although time-consuming, were an important step in the understanding of the problems facing each location. In the end the committee strongly agreed with the following recommendations: 1. Full utilization of the current dispatch centers with no new centers initiated. 2. A master plan to coordinate existing services with future county growth. This plan could save taxpayers' tax-payers' money by recommending and coordinating future hardware and software purchases. Now it seems the Clipper would like to have saved the half year effort of a very dedicated committee com-mittee by just writing their own conclusion clear back in September. If the paper wants to have a running feud with the Bountiful Police Department over their dispatch center, please do so without attacking attack-ing six months of effort by busy citizens from throughout Davis County. I live next to Bountiful and have heard in the Constitution that: 'A11 men should be treated m |
