Show Entertciinnient ' Connecticut Yankee, "SESf makes his way home FULL SPEED AHEAD J Bv CHERIE HUBER "A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court" with Bing Crosby, Rhonda Fleming, William Bendix anil Sir Cedric Hardwicke was filmed in 1949. Mark Twain's comedy is about a lum-of-ihe-century blacksmith who is knocked out only to wake up in sixth-century Camelot. The film might be called an early version of "Back to the Future". Bing Crosby quickly goes from being be-ing called a "monster" to being seen as a wizard. He's given the right to teach his tricks to the beautiful beau-tiful niece of the king. But in Camelot he quickly finds himself out of favor with certain members of King Arthur's court. Then he has to use his Yankee wit to survive. The Connecticut Yankee finally makes his way back home. He recounts re-counts his story to the present day lord of the castle and is reunited with his true love. The kids will enjoy the movie and hate the singing. But that's okay. It's a good clean movie and it might spark an interest in reading more of Mark Twain. The more mature vieweryvill enjoy seeing the old stars in all their glory. Re-, member when William Bendix played in cowboy movies? Remember Re-member when we used to collect pictures of all the stars and paste them in a special scrap book if we had one or an old Sears catalog if we couldn't afford the album? The video was supplied by Deanna Ehman of Adventureland Video in Centerville. |
