Show Davis High School remains unbeaten SALT LAKE CITY-Davis High had little trouble staying unbeaten for the year as well as winning the Region One golf tournament title last week. The Darts are a heavy favorite entering today's state 4-A tournament at Glendale Golf Course in Salt Lake City. Tee off times began at 9 a.m. this morning. Meanwhile, both Bountiful and Woods Cross will be teeing off in the state 3-A tournament at Hobble Creek in Spring ville this morning as well. Here's a recap of last week's regiojrtournaments: At Glendale, the Darts ran away wuh the region crown with a 305, paced by David Summerhays, region medalist with a 73. Summerhays Sum-merhays hit every green in regulation regula-tion enroute to the fine one-over score. Also scoring for the Darts were Chad Pettingill with a 76, Matt Lyons 78, Morgan Atkinson 78 and Matt Jensen 80. Davis coach John Dawson expects ex-pects the stiffest challenges today to come from Skyline and Hillcrest as trr - Davis tries to capture its first-ever 4-A golf title. At Wasatch Park in Midway, Bountiful was taking second in Region Six and thus earning a state berth with a 350 team score, finishing behind Murray. Ryan Budge led the Braves with an 80. Other members of the team that will go to state include Jeff Hoster, Mike. Affleck, Chris Carver and Brandon - Earl. . , Woods Cross' trip to Hobble Creek today was a bit more adven turous. The Wildcats had Jo play off with Tooele at Rose Park on Friday to break a tie brought about by a screwy forfeit, but John Adam's troops were up to the challenge, as ' they beat the Buffs by 19 strokes to earn the fourth and final state berth. Shawn Jepsen, the ninth-grader who shot a 36 at Rose Park, Scott Strong (who also shot. 36), Matt Hardy, Mark Robinson; and either Matt Shaw or Evan Morrison, who were to play off for the final berth at Hobble Creek on Monday. |
