Waite, principal' of Viewmont High School announced that Jason Crandall, Emily Fisher, Michael Jones, Duane Koford, Kelly Kel-ly Nielsen, and Michelle Pickering , . have been named Commended Students in the 1990 National Merit Scholarship Program. A letter of Commendation from the school and National Merit Scholarship Corporation, Cor-poration, which conducts the competition com-petition has been presented to these outstanding students. About 35,000 Commended Students nationwide are being, honored for their outstanding per- formance on the 1988 . PSATNMSOT, which ranks them in the top five percent of more than one million students who entered' the 1990 Merit Program by taking the qualifying test. Commended Students scored slightly below the level required to continue in the 1990 competition for merit scholarships, scholar-ships, but they have shown exceptional excep-tional academic promise. An official of the merit program stated that "to be designated a Commended Student in this extremely ex-tremely competitive program is an attainment deserving of public recognition rec-ognition and is a credit to these young people and their school. Commended Students were included includ-ed in a merit program service through which they could be referred re-ferred to two colleges or universities univer-sities of their choice. We hope that the referral service and the recognition recogni-tion they are now receiving will enhance the higher education opportunities op-portunities of Commended Students and increase their motivation to use their abilities to the fullest The continued con-tinued educational and personal development de-velopment of academically alerted students will benefit the entire nation," !' |
