Show Farmington takes volleyball tournament By TOM HARALDSEN Sports Editor BOUNTIFUL--Farmington Junior Ju-nior High captured the Davis Coun ty School District Junior High Volleyball Tournament Friday afternoon with a 15-8 15-6 championship cham-pionship match victory over Central Davis. The match was played at Bountiful High School. Farmington thus emerged from its third-seeded position in the southern division to win the title. It had finished league play with a 3-2 record before entering this year's single-elimination playoff. Central Davis had also earned a place in the finals in upset fashion, having beaten top-seeded Mueller Park in two games on Thursday. The tournament began on Tuesday, with the top four teams (top two finishers in each division) getting first-round byes. On Tuesday, Farmington dropped North Davis, Centerville ended Kaysville's season, South Davis pulled a minor upset by stopping stop-ping Sunset and Bountiful beat Syracuse. In Wednesday's second round, Farmington upset North Layton, the northern division champs, in three games. Millcreek beat Centerville, Mueller Park needed three games to finally beat South Davis, and Central Cen-tral Davis stopped Bountiful. Thursday's semifinals found Farmington dropping Millcreek in straight sets, while Central Davis upset Mueller Park in two games as well. That set the stage for Friday's final. |
