Show Animal control asks $.35 donation By LYNN BURTON Chairman of the Davis County Commission, Bill -Peters, sent a letter to all mayors in the county on June 26. In the letter, he asked the mayors to contribute 35 cents per capita to help the county maintain its current level of animal services through the end of 1989. The county will begin its budgetary process for the next fiscal year in a few weeks, and the commissioner com-missioner said that he will pursue ; funding of thefull animal control program by the county for the next year, either through cutting other areas or through a dedicated mill levy. Dog licensing will be more vig-oiously: vig-oiously: pursued within the county in order to raise revenues. Concern was voiced by County Attorney Mel Wilson about the appropriateness ap-propriateness of funding the entire animal control program through a tax levy because not all cities-within the county are entirely served by Davis County Animal Control and Care. Earlier this month, Bountiful City manager Tom Hardy, along with the Bountiful City Council, refused to go along with the county's proposal that the cities fund the entire animal -control program. This week Mr.. Hardy said that Com. Peters was, doing ..a good job of trying to pull it together and resolve the problems." prob-lems." He will recommend to the" Bountiful City council that they agree to the commissioner's new proposal at their regulaY meeting on July 5. The outlook elsewhere isn't so optimistic. Clinton's mayor, Larry Davis, wants assurance that they will not be asked to contribute every year, and for now will not authorize au-thorize any payment . ; . |
