Show Darts finish third in state 4-A golf finals By TOM HARALDSEN Sports Editor SALT LAKE CITY Bad weather made playing conditions treacherous and scores high during Wednesday's state 4-A golf championships cham-pionships at Bonneville, but that didn't stop Skyline from running away with the show. The Eagles bested all their foes with a respectable 308 to win the school's first golf title since 1979. Second place Orem finished 14 shots back at 322 while Davis was third at 323. Bountiful High, the other local entry, finished at 359. Jeff Jolley of Alta was medalist this year with a 75. Davis High junior David Summerhays led local linksters with a 77. Ironically, the Darts' 323 score at Bonneville was identical to the score they shot in winning the Region Four title on this same course one week earlier. In addition to Summerhays' 77, other Davis scores included Sean Turner, Alex Ward and Matt Lyons, all at 82, with Chad Petting-ill Petting-ill coming in at 85. For Bountiful, top scorer was junior Jeff Hoster with an 87. Other Braves included Dirk Anderson at 89, Ryan Budge 91 , Travis Forbush 92 and Mike Affleck 94. Though disappointed with the third place finish at state, the Darts of Davis enjoyed a brilliant golf season, going unbeaten until Wednesday. Davis will return four of its top seven golfers next year as well. |
