Show Layton arts exhibit w By DONETA GATHERUM LAYTON The Layton Arts Council will present the works of two outstanding artists in a special exhibition at the Layton Heritage Museum during the month of August. Au-gust. Sandra and Rett Ashby, a mother and son artistic duo, will be the participants in this outstanding outstand-ing show. The exhibit is free to the public during regular museum hours Wednesdays through Saturdays' from 1-5 p.m. The museum is closed Mondays and Tuesdays. Sandra Ashby started her artistic career in high school where she won many awards in competitions both nationally and internationally. international-ly. Since then, she has taken many classes under Ronald Burgen , B . Y. Anelelin, Doyle Strong and Harrison Harri-son Groutage as well as at the Weber We-ber State College Art Department. She taught art classes for 15 years but gave this up in order to open a custom frame shop, "The Artist Touch." Her son, Brett, is a partner in this business. Mrs. Ashby works in oils, pastels, pas-tels, ink and watercolor. The later is her favorite medium. She works in a variety of subjects. Rett started painting in junior high when he took drawing classes from his mother. He went on to develop his own style in his favorite favo-rite medium, watercolor. Rett attended USU where he studied under Glen Edwards and Harrison Groutage. He won a first place ribbon at the Utah State Fair on the first watercolor he did and has been winning awards since this successful beginning. Rett's works can be found at his custom frame shop and at the Shadow Mountain Gallery in Jackson Hole, Wyo. The artists were guests of honor at an open house and reception held Sunday, Aug. 7. |
