The National Nordic Championships Champ-ionships are scheduled at Durango, Colo, this Saturday and Sunday. Cross country, jumping, downhill and slalom even ts comprise com-prise nordic skiing. "Cross country skiing is difficult. Skiing a nine-mile timed course at 8-9,000 feet creates an extreme oxygen problem. Olympic skiers are only required to ski at 7200 feet," said coach Matz Jenssen. The alpine team will participate in the Slalom Derby at Park City this Saturday. Downhill and slalom are featured events. Fredrick Bjornstad is the leading contender this season. At the Landes Cup in Alta, Bjornstad took second in jumping and first in nordic combined in the college division. He appears to be a strong prospect for a top finisher in the NCAA nordic combined. |
