Show I ACTION and where its at 5 322-7008 A SERVICE OF THE DEAN OF STUDENTS OFFICE 1 BY HARRIS VINCENT FEATURETTE Attention grade lovers. If you got a raw deal last quarter from your Professor and you can't get (no) satisfaction, give us a call on 322-7008, and leave your name and how we can contact you. 'There is still hope in the world, even though suicide is painless. FEATURETTE No. 2 Drifted Walks Why can't we have the walks shoveled in University Village? Many of the walks are still snow-packed snow-packed and several of the residents resi-dents of the Village have fallen on the ice. Is there no relief? S. Staten Every effort is being made to keep the walks in the village clear to the traffic areas. Because of the over-whelming snow problems and the lack of budget to support snow removal, several of the inner walks between buildings and the village courts have been neglected. Many of them are now drifted and frozen to such a point that snow removal would be unfeasible at present. We are sure this is not the best of all worlds, but it is a lot cheaper than increased rent for snow removal. As the weather allows and the snow removal crews are able to catch up with the problems on campus, both on the walkways and parking lots, they will return to the village inner walks. For the time being, it may be necessary to walk to the road and use these for inter-village walkways. Calling Me? Who gives out lists of University Uni-versity students to the insurance salesmen? I have received many nuisance calls this last quarter from salesmen exclusively appealing ap-pealing to the college market. Is the University turning a profit at our expense? C. Landhun It is not the University that is making the buck; it is your fellow students. Many large sales organizations organi-zations offer students money for lists of student names, telephones and addresses. This is generally done by sending in a campus directory to these organizations. The same thing happens in high schools. We have checked with the publishing company of the directory, direc-tory, and they do not sell the listings. If there was any evidence that this was actually happening, we would terminate our contracts with them. If students wish to have this kind of information withheld, they should request not to be listed in the campus directory direc-tory during fall registration on the computer card provided for address ad-dress corrections. This, however, may be a high price to pay if you want other students to be able to locate you. Got a gripe and want to face the administration? Show up Tuesday night in the Union Ballroom Ball-room at 8 p.m. for a general rsound-off session. The University Public Relations department has rinvited administration, faculty iand students to come to this open forum. It's success depends on i your warm body. It's a real opportunity oppor-tunity for the faculty to sound off ; to the students as well. ; Sticky Stickers i. "fe What's the story on non-resi-rdent stickers? I don't understand Jwhy they are required and I can ; - Find no reference in the Utah 'Statutes requiring the non-resi-.. Jents to buy these stickers. The University should inform students From out-of-state of this responsibility. respon-sibility. J. Forma n The state vehicle code requires ;:that all cars from out-of-state who :ire in Utah for an extended ; period of time purchase Utah license plates. There is, however, in exception for students, al- owing them to purchase a nonresident non-resident sticker, which is available ;t-it Campus Security. This excep- ion is only valid if the student is tiot working in Utah and has a j ecognized inspection sticker from ERtis home state. This is really a r- ervice, which the University is Jad to perform, but is under no 'JSbligation to do so. Campus ;.necurity assures Action Line that '-very effort is made to inform tudents of this responsibility as i'hey register their cars to drive on s ampus. It is actually a good deal w .or the out-of-state student, but it ti a state requirement that we are ''"'neeting, not a University rule. |
