Show USU Court Rules Elections As Invalid BySUZANXE DEAN USU Correspondent LOGAN USU student court last week ruled aU student elections invalid, in-valid, but Wednesday, 33 apparent winners took office anyway. By the time the swearing-in ceremonies cere-monies were over the court was out of office and powerless. The new senate then held a meeting meet-ing in which they ruled for a special election to select a new agricultural agricul-tural senator (here the person originally or-iginally elected was disqualified when he failed to meet GPA standards), stan-dards), and to settle a tie between two candidates for senior secretary. Prior to Wednesday's senate meet, the court met to hear a request re-quest of the candidates for an election rerun. No one appeared to contest the election. The court then decided it was up to the election chairman to decide de-cide if any of the elections were invalid. Election chairman, Burke Christensen, promptly decided all were valid. The entire election controversy began last week when the court ruled that elections violated stu-dentbody stu-dentbody elections at Utah State. The court contended the names were not printed alphabetically on the ballot, students' voting qualifications qualifi-cations were not checked, illegal voting occurred outside of voting booths and polls were set up in off-campus, nonneutral buildings. |
