Show Students Earn Honors In U Poetry Contest Seven University students received re-ceived recognition Sunday, for their participation in a poetry contest which was sponsored by the English Eng-lish Department. Those receiving awards for either their poetry readings, or for their original poems were: Peter Coyne, who received first place for his reading, and also for his original poetry, Carol Kirkham, who received re-ceived second place for her original poetry and Steven Peyton who received re-ceived second place for his reading. read-ing. Kathy Leon received honorable honor-able mention for excellence in reading read-ing and original poetry. Also receiving re-ceiving honorable mention were: Ellen Besse, E. Richard Hart and Susu Knight. The contest was held Sunday night in the Alumni Lounge. Students Stu-dents were able to compete in two categories ; original poetry, and poetry reading. For the original poetry category, students were required to submit and read three poems which they had written. For the poetry reading read-ing category students read three poems of their own selection. Doctor Kenneth Ebel, Doctor Edward Ed-ward Lueders and Doctor Harold Moore, of the English department acted as judges. |
