Show f m Poor People To Pass Through Salt Lake On the afternoon of May 17 about 400 Negroes, Indians and Spanish-Americans Spanish-Americans will enter Salt Lake Valley. They will be coming from the San Francisco Bay and the San Joaquin areas of California. They will have little food or money and many will have no place to sleep. Student organizations such as the Campus Christian Center, SOUL (Student Opportunity at University Level) and Action People for Human Hu-man Community are joining with down-town groups so Salt Lake will be prepared when the 400 enter the valley. Stay One Night The Californians will only stay ' in Salt Lake for one night. They are part of a nation-wide migration of poor people toward the nation's capitol. Poor people from all Am-erisa Am-erisa plan to establish a tent city on the lawns of the White House, hoping to embarass the legislature into passing laws to aid the poor. The plan was made public in a meeting Thursday by John Wade who is associated with the Campus Christian Center. At the meeting a representative from the Bureau of Indian Affairs gave the arguments argu-ments in support of the demonstration. demonstra-tion. He said the poor people are tired of having laws which turn into a political football. "Give the poor just laws and we will obey them," he said. |
