Show Negroes Win Union Dispute CHICAGO In what is believed to be the first court order of its kind, a local union here has been directed to enroll forthwith three Negro applicants for apprenticeship training who had previously been rejected solely because of their race. THE ORDER, handed down by Chief Judge William J. Campbell of the United States District Court for Northern Illinois, Oct. 16, directs di-rects Local No. 1 of the Iron Workers Work-ers Bridge and Structural Union to admit immediately to its apprentice-ship training program Ronald L. Todd, Michael Coleman and James Hill. The ruling was in response to a suit filed on behalf of the three young men by NAACP Attorneys William R. Ming and George N. Leighton. The union promptly announced an-nounced it would appeal Judge Campbell's decision. The suit was filed on Sept. 26. |
