Show An Open Door to Opportunity New Career Trends In late October John W. Macy Jr., mlot Civil Service Commission visited our campus the Utah Chapter of the American Society for Public ministration. At that time Mr. Macy answered man on questions which college stude nt... re directing ofh of the Commission. In a refreshing and insctlhi h the Chairman Macy interpreted the opportunities which tn Federal Government offers to the college student Along w. th local Civil Service Representative Clark N. Stohl, Mn Macy outlined the steps necessary to apply for Government employ ment. We feel it worthwhile that they be "Pjated here Applications are now being accepted for the JJo Federal Service Entrance Examination. This examma tion, open to college seniors and graduates regardless or major study, as w.ell as to persons who have had equivalent equiva-lent experience, offers the opportunity to begm a career in one of the 60 occupational fields sponsored by the Federal service. Thes.e positions are located m various Federal agencies both in Washington, D. C. and throughout through-out the United States. Details concerning requirements, management internships, salaries, and other facts may be obtained from the University Placement Office, 107 Park Building. Mr. Macy has repeatedly told groups across the nation that "a public service career is challenging, it is meaningful, it is exciting, and it is rewardings." The challenge, Mr. Macy said comes from being a member of a team whose goal is the ! solution, of very perplexing problems. The problems may be in the fields of space, of medicine, of property management j and taxation to mention a few, all of which lend excitement to the intensive pace at which the Government must maintain to compete with world issues. Career appointments in Utah last year amounted to about 300. The drive in this region is pointed toward enlisting top notch eligibles to take the Federal Entrance Service examinations exami-nations or the management internship examination. Both women and men are urged to apply but also to take note of the closing dates of these examinations. The quest is on now for quality students from the nation's na-tion's Universities. For the student who's eye is on government govern-ment employment, it would be well worthwhile to investigate the opportunities offered in a civil service appointment. |
